Following the great success of last year’s event, Village Focus International are organising the 2007 Angkor Wat Bike Race and Rally at the world famous Heritage Site at Siem Reap, Cambodia. The event will take place on 1 December 2007, and Village Focus International are planning to more than double the number of participants who took part in last year’s event. Riders last year joined from countries all over the world, including Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, France, Germany, Belgium, Canada, the USA, Korea and, of course, Cambodia.
The money raised by Village Focus International through this event will be used to maintain VFI projects in Battambong province and the coastal town of Sihanoukville. VFI Cambodia runs and supports projects to protect and empower vulnerable children, and to enable local and indigenous community leaders. All proceeds from the 2007 Angkor Wat Bike Race and Rally will benefit child protection and youth leadership development projects in Cambodia. More information on these and other VFI projects is available on our website, www.villagefocus.org.
This year, Village Focus International is planning for 50 participants to take part in the 100 kilometre Bike Race which will start and finish at the site of the largest religious building in the world, Angkor Wat, and take in stunning views of the other incredible wats that are dotted about the area. The Bike Rally will facilitate 150 bikers who can take a more leisurely ride around 50 kilometres of this extraordinary site. It is not compulsory, but we ask that everyone who registers to take part ask their friends and families to sponsor them. A small gift from each person in a growing network of people who care amounts to great projects that make a big difference to Cambodian communities.
The cost of registration for the event is $50 for non-Cambodian nationals and $25 for Cambodian nationals. This includes a free memorial race jersey. Registration can be affected through the Village Focus International website, www.villagefocus.org, or directly at www.villagefocus/angkor_marathon.org. If participants require assistance with registration, travel arrangements, hotel bookings or other information, Village Focus International will provide as much help as they can. We encourage participants to bring their own bikes, but we will have bikes and helmets available for hire on the day of the event
Village Focus will also be hosting numerous events in Siem Reap on the days surrounding the Bike Race and Rally. These include an evening reception for participants, a post-cycle brunch and dinner, tours of Angkor Wat and Siem Reap, and a pub crawl! There will be charges applied to some of these events, and participants will need to meet their own costs in relation to others, for example tickets for access to the temples of Angkor Wat.
