The 5th China International Consumer Goods Fair (CICGF) was held in Ningbo from June 8 to 12, 2006, ending with big success. The fair, co-sponsored by Ministry of Commerce PRC and Zhejiang Provincial People’s Government, set up 3000 booths which were divided into five categories. 1550 exhibitors from more than 20 provinces or municipalities and abroad attended. Over 7100 buyers from all over the world came to the fair.
The trade volume of the fair reached USD910 million, 29.6% higher than the last session, including: USD400 million for electronics and home appliances, USD285 million for light industrial products and arts & crafts, USD130 million for home textile and garments, USD50 million for foodstuffs, USD45 million for others, with respective percentages of 44%, 31.3%, 14.3%, 5.4% and 5%.
The success of the fair attributes to the following 3 main factors:
1. Good quality of exhibits. Over 230 famous brand products were on show at the fair ( including 80 national famous brands and 150 provincial or municipal famous brands), which has up-graded the fair greatly. Moreover, the buyers can go directly to most of the factories or companies which are not far from the fair, because of the advantage of manufacture around. Zhejiang is China’s largest textile and light industrial product manufacturing base, while Ningbo is China’s major home electric appliance manufacturing base, China’s most famous garment making city, China’s Metroplis of Famous Brands, China’s Metropolis of Stationery, China’s Metropolis of Molding, etc. All these contribute greatly to the success of the fair.
2 . More buyers attending. Over 7100 buyers from 103 countries and regions came to the fair, 11.4% more than the last session. According to the exhibitors, not only the number of merchants increased, but the quality of them also improved. Many merchants remarked that they hadn’t imagined the fair was so large in scale and so nice in quality. Some expressed the desire of setting up trade offices in Ningbo.
3. Better service offered. For the attendees, trips to Ningbo and the fair have left deep impressions on them: the hotel charge is not high ( the government has put a curb on it ), convenient cargo shipping services, free shuttle bus service from larger hotels to the fair, on site food to various needs ( fast Chinese food, Islamic food, KFC, coffee, etc.), on site prayer rooms ( both Muslim and Christian ), free internet, even free interpreters, etc. The buyers could even log on to the exhibitors’s websites before they went to the fair, for all the exhibitors’ websites are already linked to the fair’s website www.cicgf.com, which is unique in all China’s exhibitions.
