I don't have long term plans for China, we've been living here just over two years and so far so good...ish. But I'm sure living here for too long is not good for your health with all the pollution and spit and noise. I've forgotten what clean air feels like and a walk in the woods seems so distant. That doesn't mean I dislike China, our lives here are relatively stress free but when it comes to the crunch no, I won't choose China.

And as for me, I'd stay here in China, but mostly due to the fact I'm such a sucker for Chinese girls
There ARE other factors to consider to be honest, but this is the prime concern (for me, at least). _________________ Dongguan Expat - Your online Community!
I would choose my home country over China. No question at all.
Sorry, sinophiles! (is that the right word?)
No problem dude ... An honest reply is MUCH appreciated .
Are you from the US Just curious ...
No, I'm from Australia. I would sooner live in China than the US though.
Yep, that's how I feel too. And this despite me staying in the US over five years ... I'll chose living in China over living in the US any day! _________________ Dongguan Expat - Your online Community!
I also choose my home country why? Cause it has everything I like, nice weather, angry and bitter but friendly people like myself, being able to see the sky, not as many sleazy bastards and last but not least SELECTION in everything. I can find so many kinds of different food all over BC but in Shanghai its like, everything is Shanghainese food, even the chinese food I love isn't even here! WHERE IS MY BBQ PORK BUNS? COCONUT BREAD? CHOW MEIN? BEEF AND BROCCOLI(I have no idea why but talking with other foreigners they keep telling me how my country loves eating broccoli... seriously what the hell?)? GINGER PORK? arrrrrrgh! And Chinese girls, I HATE CHINESE GIRLS theres nothing "there"(physically and mentally speaking), I thought one was pretty cute and seemed like she was pretty sharp, so I went up to her and then I realized she had a little mustache going... GREAT thats fantastic! Oh well its not bad give her a chance... oh oops shes stupid as hell too... and they are so [FOUR LETTER WORD] spoiled, I swear to god its exactly like communicating to children here, even most foreigners that come over here its like "OH MY GOD YOU SAID THE "F" WORD OOoOooOOOOoOo... you said the "F" word oooOoOooOooOO... "F" word..... ooooOoOOo... so bad..." So its OK to swear in YOUR language but its not for me to swear in mine. I'm tolerating living here so that I can finish up my school stuff and earn some money then whenever I get the chance I will go back home find some REAL women and talk to some REAL people cause I'm so sick of all the bullshit that flies everywhere here, the locals are in their big race to show how much of a broke ass you are, most of the foreigners that come here are here to preach about how great and noble they are(except the spanish speaking people, like they do the same things but they are honest about it and its so refreshing) and then go do the sleaziest and stupidiest things you can ever imagine... UGH. I miss the girls back home(well not all of them) because they were so easy-going and knew how to mantain themselves and when they didn't know about something they wouldn't talk about it as if they knew about it, but I'm talking about really canadian raised girls from the urban areas, the asian girls there are somewhat similar to the ones in China except because of segregation in communities some asian girls do this asian pride thing and the others are just... about the same in asia who really need to get a firm grasp of reality. And you expect the richer people here too be more sophisticated and smart right? well they aren't(I have good ties here), they don't seem to know what they are doing or what they are talking about, I constantly see "well off" chinese people here taking english lessons from a guy who comes from africa and speaks french.... WHAT? ...I...i... SERIOUSLY DON'T UNDERSTAND THAT...oh maybe hes a teacher right? maybe he taught english in that colony in africa that must be it or is noticeably good at speaking english! NO HES JUST A STUDENT and I can't understand what the hell he is trying to say... but people are giving him good money to teach them english? *head explodes*. Its like... noone who is here ever heard or seen a statistical report on anything or doesn't have the understanding that PERHAPS hiring a person who doesn't speak english to teach you english is probably not a good idea. I've always been a very negative and bitter person but being in China is like a breeding ground for it, its consuming me kind of, I sometimes think I'm suffering from social withdrawal, sometimes... well a lot of times I think about suicide, all the time I think about going back home... BUT I'M HERE to achieve something I don't know what it is BUT I do know its here and for that I'll tolerate this bullshit cause I am and always will be that person who will sacrifice his happiness for something greater.
I have been living in China over the past four years although
I am in central Europe on vacation for one month at present.
My current contract in China is until July 2007.
There does not generally seem to be any need to plan more
than say, two days in advance in the People's Republic.
It suits me fine to just go with the flow
I did return to my native country of Australia last year during
the summer vacation. This was the first visit back in three
years. I had a pleasant time catching up with family & friends.
However these days, I live in a much bigger world and would
not necessarily choose any particular country as my favourite.
Before I do so, are you male or female ? J/curious ...

As far as friendly people go, plenty of them in China too ... As far as "sleazy bastards" go, plenty to be found EVERYWHERE, all over the world. Geez, sounds like you really hate China - WHY are you here in the first place??
As far as food selection goes, well, all those pork buns and assorted stuff your referring to is all Western Chinese ... kinda unfair to expect the local Chinese to adapt THEIR diet to what we Westerners would prefer, doncha think?? ... I'm not saying I dont miss Western Chinese, I do. However, we are in China and can't expect the locals to adapt for us ...
That being said, there are MANY different types of Chinese food which I do enjoy. I especially enjoy the local BBQ, the hot pots, the spicy meat ... I dont think all Chinese food is bad. And in a place like Shanghai, I am SURE you could find Chinese food from all parts of China.

This is the same sort of DRIVEL I hear from Western girls when we guys talk about Chinese ladies, and how cute they are. When it comes to women, I believe they're just jealous - but from your post, it sounds like your a man.
I personally think girls are way friendlier here, and way easier to approach. And trust me, it is NOT to do with the size of my wallet. Matter of fact, I've been out of a job for a while, and I literally dont have money to take a girl out anywhere at this point. AND, I'm NOT Caucasian ... so I can't offer her a nice passport either . However, I still continue to meet many ladies here ...
I have personally never heard many Chinese girls curse in public, but on the other hand, they will do it privately with you when you get to know them better.

This is the only part where I agree w/you. Another peculiar phenomenon here is that Chinese prefer white people to teach them English, even though English may not be the white person's native tongue!! In fact schools here say they want "young, white teachers"! I do feel a bit annoyed when I hear that type of thing.
As for the rest of your rant though, I really suggest you go back home if you hate it so much here _________________ Dongguan Expat - Your online Community!
1. I'm a guy
2. Yeah I guess I went too far with that, basically since I go to class with other foreigners I only see those guys and those guys are the ones that I think are really sleazy. But yeah I noticed a lot of the locals are really good people.
When I was talking about the food I was talking about the selection of food. Back in Vancouver we had restaurants of all kinds and some keep to their home country's taste. But in Shanghai its just this image of selection in food when it comes down to it, it leaves you feeling unsatisfied, unrefreshed basically unchanged.
3. I'm not talking about friendliness, I'm talking about them being "real" as in not really meeting up to my standards of what I would say a "real" woman. I'm not only talking about local women but also other foreigners I've heard some of them say unfriendly things in Chinese, I hear locals going "CAO!" which is basically their version of "f-ck". With the other foreigners that came here to China they get all "jesus only understands English curse words" with me. How do I know they are cursing in their tongue? Cause they tell me cause they think its cool if they teach others how to swear their language.
4. At the end of my post I stated why I'm here in China, its for cashing in on China and getting to my unknown goal. I'm also here to get my peice of paper in hotel management(I'm saying piece of paper because honestly speaking theres no "real" education in it).
