BTW, now that we got the "how tough's a sumo" question sorted out - here's another
Who would win a no holds barred battle between the Great Gama and a top Sumo wrestler
The Great Gama went undefeated in 5000 or so matches, did THOUSANDS of baithaks/dand-baithaks daily ...
He beat EVERYONE he wrestled with, including European, British (for those than consider UK to be seperate from Europe ), and wrestlers belonging to other nationalities when he toured in the early 1900's ... In any case, Hewer's probably heard of the Great Gama.
I'm stunned Thanks Rahul, I'm glad the long reply didn't go to waste.
Now we just have to convince Mike that cricket is better than baseball.
The long reply was helpful, as were the pictures. It was basically my ignorance which kept me from agreeing on this one ... I now know more about Sumos than I ever did before. As I said, initially I thought they were just walking tubs of lard, but they're clearly NOT that - and I'm glad someone explained it. Thanks!
As far as convincing Mike about cricket being better than baseball - now THAT will take some doing! You up for it
You're a true gentleman Rahul
I think there's a similar thread elsewhere in this forum where I rather bluntly query the true athleticism of American pro-footballers. From memory I don't think the whole ended quite like this _________________ Wer tanzen will, muss die Musik bezahlen
I watched the Bob Sapp Vs. Akebono fight and it was a big joke. Francis Botha (former heavyweight champ) has fought in K1 and Mike Tyson almost signed a contract.
The annual K1 Grand Prix is the best. It's a bit like Wrestlemania IV if you remember (the tournament where Randy Savage won the title). They all fight on the same night... _________________ Wer tanzen will, muss die Musik bezahlen

Actually the US pro-footballers don't look athletic to me for the most part. Now I'm sure SOME are athletic, but for the most part, they look like body builders with bloated muscles. Wonder how many Hindu pushups a US pro footballer could do

I don't remember WrestleMania IV (I haven't watched wrestling in a LONG LONG time) ... BUT, I see wasn't that far off in my ideas about K1.

What do you think of the Gama VS Sumo question, Hewer
I think Gama would be a real handful in Greco-Roman Wrestling or the "Pride" to which Mike refers above.
I almost had an easy answer for the sumo question: at only 5"7, Gama is almost too short to legally compete (The minimum is 170 cm so he scrapes in by a couple of millimeters).
I don't mean to diss such a great champion but he would never have the wood on Asashoryu in sumo for the same reasons Don Bradman wouldn't have bested Babe Ruth.
In a free fight though, well, your man may have the edge _________________ Wer tanzen will, muss die Musik bezahlen

Ah, your not dissing him, just pointing out he's a bit short .
Yup, I too think Gama would be a handful in a fist fight - did you see those pictures? I wouldn't wanna meet him in a dark alley, thats for sure (or Asashoryu for that matter).
Not sure who would win in a free fight, but Gama's superior speed may just give him the edge.
