I'm a new member. I spend most of my time up country and the rest of it in Jomtien Beach. I actually prefer living in the boonies but have a condo in Jomtien. My girlfriend has a nice two bedroom western style home about 50 kilometers south of Loei city. I'm retired and love it here.

Ran into several farang up North of you that are based in Chiang Khan. Loei city was nice to visit, despite spraining an ankle there (not being careful on a busted-up sidewalk)...
There is a place about 9 kilometers from where we live. Beautiful mountain scene and a place to have a few peaceful beers. The guy who owns the place was an English to Thai translator so he speaks very good English. Another farang also frequents the place. He seems like a decent guy but since he is a homosexual we don't have a lot in common. Other than that the farangs are few and far between.
I think there are also a few in Loei city but I don't often go there. I kind of like Chiang Khan. Right on the river with places to eat and shop for Thai goods. We go up there every once in a while. It's about 100 kilometers from where we live. I actually value my privacy so don't go looking for other farangs.
I used to live up north and 1 thing i learned is that there are farang everywhere. I would go into a village, stop at the local market and ask where the farang live. Met some very strange people that way _________________ Asia Expats Forum Expat Web Directory Expat Friends Dating

Hi Gary, sorry I am slow to respond. I have a house towards your area in Sang Khom, on the banks of the scenic river. Also have a condo in Jomtien (and Bangkok) but at the moment I am working in North China but get back once every 6 weeks. I will be back in Sang Khom in mid March as my 2 boys will be off school (school in Bangkok) during that time.
Although my home is geographically close I know little about your area as we tend to go towards Nongkhai (into Lao) plus Udon where my wife originally comes from so must make the effort and follow the river road in the other direction.
Mike is right there are farang to found all over the area each village boasts at least one or 2 some like Sang Khom more.
best regards Liweang
