Lets see. Sep 6 is AEF's 2 year anniversary.
One would think that after 2 years and having over 1200 registered users that we would be able to attract more than 15 members in any 24 hour period. But I am afraid not- I'm not sure what it takes to keep people coming back but whatever it is I am not doing it.
Having said that I can say the forum has been a failure but I am mildly optimistic that better times are ahead--to stay
On the positive side the forum has been a commercial sucess so much as the google ads and afffliate programs have covered hosting costs and even provided a small surplus.
I wouldn't call it a failure, the forum provides us with useful information, it draws people together and we make some new friends along the way.
Happy anniversary and congrats on a job well done
Thats nice to hear. I think the failure has been not being able to keep more people coming back- could never obtain the critical mass necessary to keep people. If the there were 10-15 members like you checking in and posting everyday and engaging the newbies.. then it would take off

Anyone have an idea for a newsletter to bring people back?
Mike, I agree with Simon ... I wouldn't call it a failure at all.
The main thing for any site is to get members to post on a regular basis - most just sign up, then forget their password or something and never sign in again (or some such thing).
My site has close to 400 members now, but it took a while to build up, and there's only like 4 or 5 "regular posters" - same case here with AsiaExpatsForum - only Simon, you, me, Klaus and Quibble ... BTW where are Hewer, Alan, and Toopeka (sp??)?
Such is life though - especially when you do this on a part time basis.

So, cheers and congratulations on a job well done!!
I should have counted the hours I have spent on this

Rahul--How long have you had your site?
Heh, you'll REALLY be counting the hours if you messed around with Auto Theme etc ... that shit takes a LOT of time to configure ...
My site's been up for more than two years now ... I didnt really actively promote it all the time though (but been doing that the past few months). _________________ Dongguan Expat - Your online Community!
Mike, I'd also like to point out that I feel very comfortable on this forum, I feel like I can say what I like, without fear of being judged or censored. That is a very good thing to say about a forum - not many are this way. Some other sites are pretty closed and such and don't like new members ... this one is different, as is mine.

And I can say that you didn't do your homework properly! Calling a board with a site rank of 379,422 (as of today) a failure shows lack of appropriate judgement. _________________ K O R A T - I N F O
I am gradually sorting out some ongoing
computer problems that I've been having
lately.
What I've always enjoyed most about AEF
is the candidness and the humour is usually
first rate.
Over an extended period though, members
do need to have a break. Some for personal
or work reasons. At other times, it's good to
just to sit back and read others' comments
without getting too involved.
Congratulations in any event to Mike _________________ EXPAT IN CHINA
What is very good about AEF is that people don't post more words than necessary to say what is important - and that there is no schoolmastering. Any more epitaphs?
If it hasn't beaten Mike's former "Love Affair" yet, that means only that we cannot sit back but have to make it better. There are lots of ways. Involves some work? Well . . . _________________ K O R A T - I N F O
