I play golf on a regular basis, unfortunately N.China is still not well up on the golf scene, Harbin has a 9 hole club, (Haerbin International Golf Club) though what's international about it is still mystifying, unless they mean me, the only foreigner to play there!.....
The course is sadly lacking in any thought provoking drives, you could easily manage the entire 9 holes with an 8 iron and a putter
I love golf, but the people here do not
Shanghai on the other hand is a fantastic place to play golf, hopefully Haerbin will see golf for the "Cash cow" it is and buck up their ideas soon.... _________________
Yep, North China isn't quite a golf hot spot ... seems the more developed an area is, the better the golf facilities are (which makes sense in a way).
Dongguan has a couple of decent golf courses and one real nice one (though the prices are real nice too ). Anyway Dongguan has more than enough golf courses!
Shenzhen has the world class "Mission Hills" ... expensive of course, but then it's world class (really world class). And I would imagine there are more ...
Simon, here's to hoping they'll have great golf facilities in Harbin soon!
Ha, I'm sure the world class ones here (even in Dongguan, let alone SZ) cost at least that much ...
I scoured the Mission Hills page for prices, couldn't find none - guess they dont want to scare viewers away. _________________ Dongguan Expat - Your online Community!
there was a program about golf in asia and they said most courses dont make money--and they mentioned that mission hills will never make money
weekned round at decent course in Thailand is 50$ for greens fees.
I been playing a lot lately as I bought a special membership where i can play at any one of 20 courses --no greens fees-- for 1 full year-cost 600US$ its a great deal if it holds up. _________________ Asia Expats Forum Expat Friends Dating

Mission Hills should make money - plenty of rich HK guys (and ALSO local Chinese these days) frequent it ...
Why did the article say it won't make money? The Chinese never indulge in such luxuries unless they'll make money (such as the South China Mall in Dongguan - biggest mall in the world apparently, and its doing lots of business) ... _________________ Dongguan Expat - Your online Community!
they said that expenses were much higher than revenues--and mission hills has to pay all those pros who promote the course--VJ Singh and several other top players.
they did note that some courses in Malaysia did well as over 8000 rounds per month were played.
could that be right? must be a 36 hole course they are talikng about. _________________ Asia Expats Forum Expat Friends Dating

Oh YES, they got expenses - that is one WORLD class golf resort (complete with hotels and spasa) - fit for Bill Gates (and costs as much too).
Not sure about the Malaysia part, but it's almost a first world in some areas now, so it might could be true ... _________________ Dongguan Expat - Your online Community!

Well, that's just ridiculous, I'm sorry to say.
Oh I agree.
I wouldnt spend that kind of money on golf even if I had it.
I'd order myself two nice girls instead .
And Beer And Pizza.....
I enquired yesterday at the golf club here, just how much it costs to become a member and thus pay no green fees...pffft... A year's membership is 15,000 yuan, just under $2,000.... not bad you might say... but consider that the course is frozen solid and under about 10 inches of frost for 6 months, you don't have to pay green fees but you must still hire a caddy (it's mandatory, no caddy, no play) this costs 100 yuan per round, as it's only a 9 hole course you'd think, ok, play twice = 18 holes = 1 round of golf..... Not so, to play 18 holes will cost you another 100 yuan for the caddy....."but I don't need a bloody, I have 2 clubs, no bag, no brolly, why on earth do I want a caddy?" In appaling English "you pay no for caddy, we take way member"....
I didn't join.... I just turn up when I feel like it, pay and play...the cost for 18 holes for a visitor is.... 250 yuan..........
So, for your precious membership, you would have to play a total of not less than 3,000 rounds of golf in 6 months or 17 rounds of golf each and every single day......
H.I.GC has no foreign or International members..... I wonder why _________________
I thi nk caddies are mandatory at all Thai golf courses-for about 5-6$ per 18 holes plus a tip of 2-6 dollars per 18.
Some courses also make it mandatory to use a cart--and even one course requires each golfer to have his own cart/shared with caddie.
Many this courses now have abandoned the lifetime membership in favor of 1 year or 30 year memberships. One thai I met had his lifetime membership taken away from him by the new owners of the golf course-he got a 30 year membership in exchange. _________________ Asia Expats Forum Expat Friends Dating
