Back in the days of vinyl records and tape, espexially multi-track reel-to-reel, one could have lots of fun making your own compliations, including parts of tracks, mixing things etc.
Not so easy with CD's.
However, there are some (free) programmes that enable one to, well,
SWITCH, from www.nch.com.au can change all types of audio track into any other format.
Make all your media, wma or mp3, for example.
The same company also has some other free sound related programmes.
Their WAVEPAD, is amazing.
See a graphical representation of all sounds, cut out and copy parts or all of tracks, mix sounds, etc.
Add special effects, and many other tricks.
Way back, the same technology would have needed a laboratory full of equipment. (I still have some of it!!)
I expect there are others, but these are easy to use, and more importantly FREE.
