People in Taiwan with five years of work experience receive an average salary of NT$30,207 per month, down 5 percent from the same period last year, according to a survey unveiled on Thursday.

The survey was conducted by www.1111.com.tw via e-mail questionnaires, which gathered 5,217 effective samples with a margin of error of 1.3 percent.

The survey targeted those who have worked for five years and are aged around 30, with the result showing that they receive a monthly payment of NT$30,207 on average, compared with a similar survey last year that showed NT$31,802 on average.

Yet, over half of those surveyed said that they could accept their current salary level, the poll found. Although the average salary fell slightly, some sectors showed differing results, the survey said.

Average payments for those in industry and business counseling increased to NT$34,498 from NT$28,897 last year. Those who are in the tourism service sector, which the government has actively promoted in recent years, also have higher pay, with those in the restaurant, tourism and entertainment sectors receiving an average payment of NT$27,120 per month, an increase from NT$26,291 last year.

Meanwhile, the survey also found that wages for men are about 1.3 times those for women, with men receiving average monthly pay of NT$34,544, compared with the average monthly pay of NT$26,517 for women.

With more people pursuing advanced studies, the survey also found that those who have higher degrees receive higher pay.

The average monthly pay for those with college degrees is NT$30,389, while those who have masters degrees get NT$46,576 per month, and those who have doctoral degrees receive NT$78,931 on average, or 2.6 times the salary of college graduates. Comparatively, those who have only a high school education can only manage NT$25,865 per month.
