Chinese Cooking has a long history and is a brilliant pearl in the cultural treasures of the Chinese Nation. It is equally famous with French and Turkish cooking, which are called as the three flavor systems of world cooking. Chinese food embodies the food culture tradition of the Chinese Nation and compared with cooking of other countries in the world.
For centuries Beijing has been the capital city, it became the gathering place of the literati and officials from other regions of China. Many skilled chefs followed these people to Beijing. These chefs brought the different cuisines to the capital and greatly enriched the flavors of Beijing cuisine. Beijing cuisine is famous for its hundreds of dishes with special flavors that are unmatched by any other cuisine. Beijing cuisine does not emphasize strangeness or uniqueness, only delicious food made from common ingredients with tastes that are very agreeable. It is China’s most typical cuisine. Some methods of cooking are barbecuing, deep-boiling, roasting, smoking and braising. Local products such as garlic, ginger, leeks, pork, spring onions, bean sauce, different spices, chilies, and vegetable, particularly the Northern white cabbage, together with duck, pork, chicken, seafood, beef, and lamb are used to make many varieties of gourmet dishes.
Nowadays Beijing is a food capital that collects the delicious food all over the country. There are tens of thousands of restaurants in the street, hundreds of them are famous and have several special dishes of their own. You can get almost any kind of food you like in Beijing. If your travels won't be taking you across the entire Middle Kingdom, don't despair--Beijing is an excellent place to sample the most famous foods from each province. Also in Beijing you can easily find menus from around the world including Spanish, French and Italian restaurants that are well-established, and Japanese, Indian and Thai outlets, that are also very popular with local Beijing people.
