We are looking for an individual with relevant academic training and experience who could serve as Office Assistant in our office in Chengdu, Sichuan. The position is part-time (20 hours a week). The Office Assistant will work under and report to the Office Manager. We view this position as an opportunity for training with the prospect of growing into a full time position as Office Manager. S/he will also work closely with other project staff, with officials of the Alpha national offices, and with officials in partner institutions and in different levels of government. We view this position as an opportunity to develop skills on the job.
The successful candidate will have relevant educational background, skills, and preferably, work experience in office management and public finance (accounting, tax). Oral and written skills in English and Chinese languages are essential requirements.
Duration of the contract: 1 year renewable (with 3 months probationary period).

Alpha's Field Director for Sichuan
The Office Assistant will perform the following tasks:
• banking
• filing of tax return papers with local and national tax offices
• filing of documents, both digital and paper
• maintenance of all office equipment, including computers etc.
• maintenance of office space, including overseeing cleaning
services, paying bills etc.
• liaising with relevant government offices such as Bureau of
Industry and Commerce, Provincial Foreign Affairs, Police, etc.
• provide oral & written translation (Chinese-English & English-Chinese)
• miscellaneous tasks as deemed necessary by the Office Manager
In order to accomplish these tasks the Office Assistant must have:
• preferably a Dazhuan degree, preferred fields: management,
finance or another business related field
• spoken and written proficiency in English and Chinese
• work experience in office management &/or basic book keeping,
banking and tax compliance preferred
• strong computer skills (Microsoft word; Excel; Power point)
• an eye for detail and precision
