Hi, I hope this is not too much to ask
I was wonder if someone in Bangkok could get a hold of the Chinese embassy and ask whether or not a U.S. passport holder who has been living in China for the past 2 years could get a longer-term tourist visa (like 6 months) in Bangkok?
I heard from a Australian/New Zealand citizen that they got a 6 month tourist visa in Bangkok a few weeks ago, but I hear a lot of news that Americans are treated differently w.r.t. visa issues by the Chinese government.

I may end up going to Thailand anyway when my visa expires (around November 5), but I guess I'd feel more confident with a bit more information first.
Wouldn/t it be easier for you to email to them..... I am sure all Embassy's around the world have use of internet, even the Chinese
This way you could find out first hand and ask the questions that will arise.
I am sure also that even the Chinese Government does not block off the Chinese Embassy.
toopeekaa, I'm sure an email to the embassy will return an official response (e.g. only 1 month visas available), since there's a "paper trail."

not sure what your original post inquiry is looking for, are you implying that at certain embassy or consulates there are blackmarket type visas available, that are issued by China but are not recognized by China.. or acknowledged by China ?
I stayed at this family-owned place recently in Hong Kong. The son, Stanley Fan, spoke perfect English and was very obliging. I noticed they advertised arrangement of visas.
You may care to contact him for further information. He may at least be able to point you in the right direction
