Do I need to make a hotel reservation if I'm going to Angeles city in the Philippines _________________ You've got another five seconds say something really outragious

So you've been there . What are some of the big safety issues I heard its more dangerous than Bangkok. One of the reasons why I'm not making a reservation is becouse I'm still on a waiting list for the ticket date. I want to leave sooner _________________ You've got another five seconds say something really outragious

I worked and loved there for much of 91-92, and have been back many times since.
The safety issues are all basically common sense.
There are some well known scams but you really need to have had your brain removed to fall for them. !!
On my last trip, a well dressed middle aged guy approached me and said that he had a big party going on, full of naked girls, and they didnt have enough guys. Would I like to go along.?
Yeah. Right !
Or, the brother/cousin whowever, who works in the casino and would love to allow you to win as long as you pass some of the winnings back to him.
The card school that "just needs a few more players (i.e., mugs!).
The list of variations is endless.
Just say NO to everyone.
The only possible risk is finding a underage girl among those on the streets. (Or one with VD.)
Stick to the girls from the bars.
I can take you to the temple but first lets stop off at a jewlery shop _________________ You've got another five seconds say something really outragious

Friend of mine got sucked in by a card game scheme. They told him they needed someons to play cards and the game would be rigged and he would win. He went with them to a house.
Before winning he would have to show some losses and thats how they tried to get money out of him. He refused to pay, was drugged and dumped off somewhere--he was lucky. That was in bangkok _________________ Asia Expats Forum Expat Web Directory Expat Friends Dating

I have heard that there are some unsafe places to go in the Philippines-I think certain neighborhoods are quite dangerous

I keep hearing that too.
All I can say is that having made about 50 trips there over the past 16 years, going to many places including small rural villages, and the parts of Manila and other cities that tourists dont want to visit, some of the worst slums (I visited the notorious Smokey Mountain once) etc, I have never been attacked, robbed, had anything stolen from me, or had any other problems.
Fishy it's like Alan said common sense stuff...
Avoid anyone that says "hey remember me? I was your driver or I'm the security guard(or work) at your hotel"...
The fact is you will not remember him at all or should not remember him as he is just another scammer after your hard earned $$$ just like the ones Alan mentioned(card scammers etc)...
Jeepneys can be risky but only for pickpockets - if you find the need to catch a jeepney sit either at the back(next to the rear steps) or the front seat next to the door...
I prefer to change my money during the morning and before lunch time and I use the International Travel/Money Changer just past Margarita Station...
You can use Norma's money changer but would advise during daylight hours only...
Get a hotel near the action and stisk to the well worn paths - just avoid the darker areas as undesirables may lurk there...
If you see any locals getting hot and bothered or in a fight head the other way...
But it all comes down to common sense and keeping your wits about you...
As for hotels you would be better booking in advance than just rocking up...
Even if you wait till your airfare is booked try the hotels listed on Balibago.com you may find something available...
