I've driven past Everest on my way through Tibet ... I've never been a great fan of acute mountain sickness

The beach resorts sound better to me finger

After a trek alot of people fly down to Goa to relax on the beach...I think chilling on the beach is more enjoyable when you have done something interesting & challenging beforehand.

AMS should not be a problem if the ascent rate per day is well planned, it is only if you go high too fast that you get headaches and nausea etc.

I travelled overland by 4WD from Kathmandu, Nepal to Lhasa, Tibet over 7 days. There were 18 people in the tour group. Each one suffered from AMS in one way or another.

Yes that is the problem with driving to high places, walking helps the acclimatisation process- generally in Nepal or India you take a week or so to get to that height but on the Tibetain plateau you do not have alot of choice!

Apart from the AMS did you enjoy the trip?
