I couldn't tell. Didn't get much beyond registration. Was told some contacts of a friend to other friends, but never really found out what it's all about. Probably even forgot my nick and/or password. What are your experiences, Mr. B.? _________________ Thailand Forum - Korat Forum..

facebook is one of these social networking sites--where people post crap for their friends to see etc...many of my friends use it --ive had people invite to me to join groups-play games all sorts of stuff--i just cant be bothered with it
I am not on Facebook, nor do I have a Twitter Account.
Maybe , it's because, Like Mike said, I'm old ( 40 ), but I personally don't want to be more "On the Net" than I am already. Maybe because I'm paranoid, I don't know...
But yes, Twitter and Facebook can be used as real - time collaborative tools, and some business actually use them for their transactions, believe it or not.. _________________ "Experience is Everything"

Yes, I agree totally.
But unfortunately, many people are not able to meet face to face, especially if they live in different cities, or different countries.
Real - Time Text and Visual media networks are slowly but surely gaining dominance here in the internetland.
And they are already affecting the Internet forums as well...We may see them go the way of the old USENET and BBS internet groups soon.... _________________ "Experience is Everything"
agreed--forums and even some dating sites are losing visitors to the social networking sites
But that doesn't keep new forums from opening all the time. Up here there was a real website war in the last few months by some people trying to save the pennies for advertisement and open their own news sites or forums where they can can do obtrusive and aggressive advertising for free. Those haven't understood yet that putting an advertising board in the landscape and one on the internet isn't the same. Many people are simply forum-sick and rather make their own blogs or static webpages. Social networking isn't very popular among the retirees and happily married. _________________ Thailand Forum - Korat Forum..
tons of my friends have registered and have profiles on facebook etc.
but few of them use it-- yes the over 40 crowd
who do i see using those things?
singles
forums will always be popular if they offer useful content--thats something i have neglected for quite a while now. _________________ Asia Expats Forum Expat Friends Dating

That may be the case with the retirees, who are most likely not up on the new technological trends, but there are *TONS* of married people, happily married ( or not ) on Facebook and Twitter here in America.

The Hi5 Site is VERY popular with the Thai Under 40 crowd - It's the MySpace / Face book of Thailand , and pretty popular in most other places in Asia as well ( It's especially huge in Latin America. )
I had no idea that it existed, until one of my Thai friends in Chiang Mai e-mailed me about it and "Invited" me. Once I set up my page, it automatically combs your chat program for your friends e-mail address to send out invites to them to join to your friend list.
I was surprised how many of my Thai friends were on this social network. I only presently have about 15 in my network, which is *very* low number for these types of Social Networking sites. I won't add people every time I get an invite, unless I know them already.
While I'll never be on Facebook or Twitter, I mainly use Hi5 to keep in touch with my friends in Thailand - It's easier than e-mail , and less time consuming than using the regular chat programs.
I'm finding that I'm spending more time on my little Hi5 site than I did when I first created it nearly a year ago....
Cons : At 40, I'm the oldest person in my network....
Pros: I have some rather nice young ladies in my network..
( BTW This is my 100th post here at this site... ) _________________ "Experience is Everything"
