I've eaten raw whale, live fish and raw egg mixed with bean curd and bits of sea urchin.
But I think I'll pass on balut.
Is that a popular dish Alan? I mean, can I order it your standard ma and pa diner in Pasay City?
Not usually, but almost everywhere one sees balut sellers or stalls selling them.
Most Filipinos and Filipinas like them, and they are supposed to be an aphrodisiac.
Not something I want to try! _________________ The Middle Eastern states aren't nations; they're quarrels with borders.- P. J. O'Rourke
Most expats don't really like food in other parts of Asia such as China, Japan, Thailand or other places (India appears to be an exception though) ... but I've heard glowing reports of food in the Philippines from those that have been there.
What do the rest of you think? I've never been there so can't comment ...
I like many different kinds of food. In no particular order they are:
- From Max's restaurant - Camaron Rebisado which is a prawn dish. (Shrimp, if you are American)
- Also from Max's- Crab Meat fried rice
- Lechon baby (Roast pig)
- Fried Lumpia (Spring roll, or egg roll if you are American)
- Fresh lumpia
- Pork Humba
- Lechon Paksaw (made from left over roast pig, cooked in sweet and sour spices)
- Leche Flan (dessert made with egg)
- Buko Salad (dessert made with coconut flesh, fruit and cream)
- Lechon Manok (roast chook. But if you are not from rural Australia, you can call it roast chicken)
- Fried chicken
- And, many more!

There are quality Italian restaurants offering Pizza. There are take away Italian fast food restaurants like Sbarro offering pizza. There are pizzas available in bikini bars and there are pizzas available from fast food pizza places like Greenwich, Shakey's and Pizza hut. I am not a pizza specialist, so unlike many others, my favourite place to eat Pizza is at Ratsky's in Ayala Mall in Cebu City. Between 2pm and 6pm everyday, they have a special. All the pizza you can eat and all the draught beer you can drink for P150! (about usd $3)
I hope this helps!

Dang, dude! That's real cheap!! And sounds like great pizza from what you say, and a ton of choices.
In China, one can find Italian pizza, but it's way too expensive really (at least for me, and for those that do not earn expat salaries) - around US$10 for just a large pizza (beer extra). Of course, there's "local" pizza, which I quite like .
But, the Philippines seems better on this!! Do they have any US pizza joints, like Papa Johns, or Dominos? Ok,I know Dominos is crap pizza, but just curious!!

I don't remember seeing Papa Johns or Dominos but they may be in Manila. _________________ Free Philippines videos, Philippines pictures and my blog can all be accessed from my website http://www.bigjimsphilippinesexperience.com

Well, even if those joints aren't there, seems PH has a bunch of decent pizza places.
