What's the food like in the Philippines?
Most expats don't really like food in other parts of Asia such as China, Japan, Thailand or other places (India appears to be an exception though) ... but I've heard glowing reports of food in the Philippines from those that have been there.

What do the rest of you think? I've never been there so can't comment ...
I dunno, I just ate Jolibee the whole time I was there. _________________ Wer tanzen will, muss die Musik bezahlen
It's a Filipino fast food chain similar to McDonalds. Only difference being, they prepare your order while you wait (so it's kind of medium pace food rather than fast). They then call out your name on the microphone and you come and get it.
Only problem was, they could never get my name right so I would just sit there waiting even though my order was ready. After that, I just told them my name was Tom _________________ Wer tanzen will, muss die Musik bezahlen
I like almsot all the food in the Philippines.
Mostly it is a sort-of mix of Malay, Chinese plus some unusual "specialities".
The latter include balut, which I have seen but not eaten.
Balut:
Another snack:
Apart from that, the rest is excellent, and not too spicy.
I find Thai food a bit hot for me (I know the Thai language has different words for hot as in temperature and hot as in spicy but can never recall which is which), and dont like curry, which makes the Indian sub-continent a gastronomic desert for me.

Amazing how some of us expats think alike. When any Chinese person (that I don't know too well) asks my name, I too tell them my name is Tom!!
For some reason, they pronounce Rahul as "Lahoo", so I just tell them my name is Tom which they seem to pronounce OK.

Not necessarily - there is PLENTY of Tandoori food without curry, and if you like meats, you'll LOVE those dishes. Trust me on this one .
And if you find that too be to hot, go for South Indian fare (though stay away from spicy Kerala!!). Go to the "South Indian" restaurants, they'll serve you plenty of dishes which are not hot at all, but tasty.
When I have been to India /Pakistan /Bangladesh I have always managed without fading away, so, yes, there are things that arent too spicy, but as a generalisation, lots of food there is, as it is in many arab countries.
As you will know, drinking water after you have taken a mouthful of something that is far too hot doe no good at all.
Coconut juice does take the spicyness away however.
(And I like it too.) _________________ The Middle Eastern states aren't nations; they're quarrels with borders.- P. J. O'Rourke

I've eaten raw whale, live fish and raw egg mixed with bean curd and bits of sea urchin.
But I think I'll pass on balut.
Is that a popular dish Alan? I mean, can I order it your standard ma and pa diner in Pasay City? _________________ Wer tanzen will, muss die Musik bezahlen
