what a nice surprise wednesday night when i got home from work--started up the pc --logged on and got a nice blue screen
I first thought that it was ahard disk issue as the blue screen mentioned about inpage errors..
safe mode, chkdsk what ever did not help so i installed another xp on
the same hard disk.
The xp installation went smoothly blah , blah and I was up and runnnig within an hour. of course still lots of software still to install but I had zero data lost.
What I noticed was that windows automatically created a windows.0 directory for the new xp installation. it never asked me if I wanted to overwrite the old installation or gave me a chance to choose my own dir name for the new installation.
so now I have dual boot xp's which still yield a blue screen if i logon to the old installation.

Could either be a virus (I've had that happen, every time I'd start IE a blue screen with some garbage would pop up - but it didnt affect surfing or anything else).
Most likely though, your hard disk may be about to crash - best to back everything up ASAP ... they don't call it the "blue screen of death" for nothing.

I'm guessign PART of your harddrive is messed up ... Best to try and copy everything to the new one, and totally delete the old partitition.
I did not mention that at one point my bios failed to recognize the hard drive completel--i reseated the sata and power connections and since then no problems--but stil cannot logon to the original installation
9 times out of 10 blue screens are hardware issues
i always do the following
if its xp and you can safe boot (f8 on startup) go to system restore (especially if youve just done a windows update)
if not
take all pci cards out, take the power lead out of hard drives & cds you dont need to boot the pc
take out and put back in the ram & graphics card and the hard drive cable in the drive and on the motherboard
if you still blue screen after that take out the cmos battery for at least 30 minutes
if you still blue screen after that, then its reinstall xp (try the upgrade first) - when you do a fresh install of windows you should get an advanced install button - this is where you can specify whether you want to manually choose the partition or drive etc (once the installation has started) _________________ Watch Sky TV from anywhere
