GOVERNMENT employees welcome returning overseas Filipino workers from the Middle East at the Manila airport as part of the government’s tribute to Philippine labor that brought in more than $10-B to the economy this year. There are more than eight million Filipinos working abroad. The United States, Saudi Arabia, Italy and Britain were the largest sources of remittances
Something positive since most of the topics here are looking at the downside.
The income to RP IS positive, but it is a shame that so many have to seek work abroad rather than find jobs in their own country. _________________ The Middle Eastern states aren't nations; they're quarrels with borders.- P. J. O'Rourke

We think differently. It's not a shame if you're going to work for your family (that is why there is the meaning bread winner) rather then staying in the country that is not even moving for them. You should be actually proud since you are going off to see better ways just to keep your family alive. Eh, I don't think that's a shame that is actually basic instinct.
I'd say heck yeah move. You would move either if you can't really find a better job there and if you found a better job that pays better somewhere in europe rather in america.
An interesting viewpoint, to think that it is better to travel thousands of miles to find work and then be away from ones family rather than have a well paid job locally thus enabling one to stay at home and work.
I am sure many would prefer the latter option, but, hey, you're entitled to your own opinion. _________________ The Middle Eastern states aren't nations; they're quarrels with borders.- P. J. O'Rourke

I doubt there is a well paid job locally. If you're talking about doctors and nurses being one of them for local. Yes, that's a good job for them locally but to think if every one worked locally, there will be soo many filipino doctors and nurses working in the philippines and soo most of them won't even find openings for jobs as doctors and nurses locally anymore and they would end up looking for other jobs that has nothing to do with being doctors or nurses and they will have wasted their education.

There should and could be more local jobs, but sadly (I think) many have to go overseas to find work.
It is often the better qualified, who are the people that the Philippines can least afford to lose, that are the ones working as OFW's. _________________ The Middle Eastern states aren't nations; they're quarrels with borders.- P. J. O'Rourke

yes there should be more local jobs but then again there are not alot of jobs there for everyone. so mostly most do move away and plus the money they get is less then a normal paying salary localy so yes they move. i don't think it's a shame because if you have to do it to get better income then u would move.
the only shame is the fact that the country can't satisfy the people.
And a Merry Christmas to you, and to everyone else here. _________________ The Middle Eastern states aren't nations; they're quarrels with borders.- P. J. O'Rourke
