im sure there are plenty of wackos and neo nazi types who honor hitler privately...
Probably ... did you read the Ludlum novel "The Apocalypse Watch"
When I went to Dachau in 1993 there were skinheads by the S-Bahn station. Looked like they were coming back from a day trip. ****s.
Oh yes, plenty of those clowns running around ... they're just more discreet these days (at least in the US) - not sure how it is in Germany, though ...
As far as novels go, the Ludlum one I mentioned was a fairly good one though! Complicated, but then all Ludlums are like that.
Of course, nothing beats the Bourne series! I thought the movies were a bit of a let down, so to speak, after the book (especially the second one when Marie dies which is NOT how it plays out in the novel - at least not if I remember right) ... but then the movies are never as good as the novels.
I am just playing devils advocate here. I find nothing wrong with honoring ones war dead
That's JQ's job isn't it? But I see he agreed on this thread.

Ah, it's all a bit overblown in Germany. I can say that having lived there. More in other countries. The only reason you read about German Neo-Nazis is that the Danish ones don't sell newspapers.

Initially, Yasukuni did have a chance to remove the class A war criminals. Remember, these class A war criminals were executed for their crime against humanity. They were the ones who let 300,000 get massacred in Nanjing, and number of biological experiments carried out to make Nazi scientists look like kids. Philippines, Korea, China, and other south east asian countries.
Even to this day, they still have the option of removing Tojo and co. fromt their list. But Yasukuni hasnt merely been quiet about the issue. They insist and REFUSE to remove the class A war criminals.
To make things worse, Japan has been very stubborn in its history education. I am led to believe that German students learn that Nazism was bad, and they are never to do it again. However, in number of Japanese text books, Japanese army is still to this day, portrayed as having good will, to liberate Asia from the West. Japan never attacked China. Japan "advanced" to China, and "unfortunate incidents" have caused death of millions of Chinese.
Quite honestly, for other Asians, it IS just like the German chancellor (or president? which ever it is ) going to pay tribute to Hitler.
