Yes, I do have a question.....Why don't you re-read what you wrote?
"Cambodia is not at all as civilized as Thailand".
Civilized? C'mon buddy, Cambodia might be "underdeveloped" or "impoverished" or "lacking in infrastructure" but can you really compare how "civilized" countries are?? Are we talking about hunter-gatherers here? You sound like a missionary from the 1930s.
Manners are, of course, always on the top list of a traveller, but hospitality should be too...."
For one thing, I think that Cambodians were wonderfully hospitable and as well as being polite. I think it's a bit far-fetched to label the whole country this way. Obviously you don't. Your choice of words and the flawed logic you use to debase an entire country is what I find offensive.
To back up your remarks you relate an anecdote of a hostage taking at an international school in Siem Reap. I see. So I can safely conclude that any country where there has been hostage taking and murders is similarly "unhospitable" and "uncivilized". Gee, I better leave Japan then...and I should avoid the USA for that matter.
"I swore never to return and spend money in such a rotten part of the world".
No commonsense... It could be happen every country if you are showing welcomming sign...
Thought they did not robbed.. but just pick up the bag from your bicycle!!!! Of course... too bad ....
Really sympathy for what you have happen in Camboida and also would like you to remind this kind of inviting tone in other country too...

Cambodia is okay these days, though still a bit of a backwater. My first visit was for a fortnight in 2002, then much the same period in 2008, and in August 2010 ... ten days. Angkor Wat (Siem Reap) is still the big tourist drawcard, so some dodginess is to be expected; same as other places in the world. Phnom Penh has really gone ahead with many new buildings and lots of foreign being injected into the economy, especially from neighbouring Vietnam. Language and culture is no problem at all in Cambodia, as English is widely spoken. Sihanoukville is a pleasant beachside getaway on the cheap. Visa's are available on arrival in Cambodia at the airports and land crossings.
