This was front page news here today in the English language newspapers. What this article fails to mention is that the victim previously won an award for a short story entitled 'Rainfall' about a Englishman called Guy who falls in love with a Thai bar girl called Fon. He refuses to believe that she is sleeping around and gambling his money and even when he catches her in the act he forgives her. After a series of further betrayals, he realises that his wife has hired one of his best friends to kill him.
If you are interested in this sort of stuff, also read Stephen Leather's novel, Private Dancer.
I'm not sure what these people are smoking but they tend to take things to the extreme.
My ex-wife pulled on a knife on me once (or twice) not to mention the many suicide threats. My current GF threatened to commit suicide if I kicked her out. She asked me if would be happy if she was dead. I said "no... but I would be happy if had my freedom back". Life is cheap here. _________________ Asia Expats Forum Expat Friends Dating
A while ago a Filipina ex-bargirl killed her British husband, Steve Davies, with the aid of her brother and her boyfriend.
Apparently his cash was more interesting than he was.
It happens, and happens everywhere. The main difference is that in the UK / EU /US the amounts that most people have would only net the ex-wise a modest sum, but that same amount in SE Asia is a fortune and worth killing for. _________________ The Middle Eastern states aren't nations; they're quarrels with borders.- P. To a certain extent this sort of thing should be expected when some foreigner hitches up with a bar girl (or hooker, whichever the case may be).
Now the murder part is extreme, but let's face it - most bar girls would only have one reason for marrying the foreigner. I'm sure there are exceptions to this rule, but in general, bar girls are Trouble, with a capital T _________________ Dongguan Expat - Your online Community!
I'm not a bargirl nor a hooker... but I don't think your statement is fair Rahul. They are normal people like us, and if they are Trouble with a capital 'T', it's because they as a human being is a troubled person to begin with.
I know you don't mean to generalise, but I can't help sensing that you did just that

I'm not saying the statement is fair, but it's true for the most part. What I meant to say was that hooking up with a bar girl (or hooker) is usually trouble for the foreigner ... and it's true, for the MOST part. To be quite honest, most of the girls are in it for money, and the men are in it to enjoy a younger woman treating them like a king (which they wouldnt find back home). Again, this last sentence may not sound very nice, but it's true ... for the MOST part.
This is NOT to say that those women aren't human beings and have feelings - this is also not to say they shouldn't desire a better life. I am not condemning what they do ... nor am I condemning what the foreigners with them do.
The girls may be troubled human beings, and the foreigner with them may well be a troubled human being too .
Last, this is not to say they are ALL like that - which is why I said there are exceptions to the rule

Good thing is that the dating services on the internet now reduce the ratio of (bad)bargirl-foreigner marriages to other thaigirl-foreigner marriages.
Negative about that could be that the ratio of thaigirl-(bad)foreigner marriages might be on the increase, leading to many marriages not spurred by spontaneous feelings at initial meetings. Too big money power "awareness" by the "descending" guys. Defense? _________________ Thailand Forum - Korat Forum..
Hey! my sister is a bar girl... it is far removed from prostitution and is an honest living!!! Most Aussie women have done their time in the hospitality industry- if it was a barman would you be calling him Trouble with a capital T.
Girl as bartender is not the same as bargirl over here. I don't know the exact term in english but in german they would go as "Animierdamen" (Ladies to animate you, make you spend $ 50 for a sugar water for them . . . and go home with you if they sense more to get out of you). My dictionary says: "Barmaid or drinking partner employed for the purpose". They're not in the bar business but the sex business in a bar! To the dictionary definition (for Thailand) should be added "and to be picked up for the night upon payment of a redemption fee to the bar owner plus a fee/present to the girl" _________________ Thailand Forum - Korat Forum..

There's a difference between barmaids in western (or developed) nations, and bar girls in Thailand.
I'd elaborate more, but Klaus's posting says it all.

Quite well put!
As far as the whole "dating services" thing goes ... well, it's great if people can MEET each other IN PERSON after finding each other online. But the whole mail order bride thing ... Nah, does more harm than good eventually in most cases, be it physical harm or mental.
