Hello all,

I am currently a US citizen looking to move to south east Asia. I have two possible locations to move to and I'm not sure which is a better place to live. It is extremely difficult to find anything on-line that compares the various places in south east Asia.

My wife and I have 2 young children (Ages 3 and 1) that we would be moving with. The education of these children is extremely important to us.

Has anyone in the community lived in both Macau and Singapore? If so, what are the pros and cons of each?

Anyone living in just one of the areas, what are the top 5 things you like about it? What are the top 5 things that shocked you about the area?

Hi Darrell, this is a no brainer.

Singapore is the choice for you, especially since you mentioned about the education of your kids. There are many international schools in Singapore. And if you do not insist on them following an international curriculum, you can enroll them in local public schools, where they won't cost you an arm and a leg.

Other than casinos and whores, there aren't that many attractions in Macau. I was there a few years ago and when I walked into a hotel, I was shocked by the numbers of hookers on display in and around the lobby. They were not discreet at all and it made the place looked very sleazy. Not the kind of environment you want your kids to grow up in.

I haven't lived in either place but I have lived in Asia (Hong Kong and the Philippines) for 36 years and visited both many times.

I agree with Dirty Harry. Singapore is a far better place to live. I have never noticed the hookers in Macau but there is not much there other than casinos and hotels.

Singapore has many advantages other than good education, etc. It is very easy to travel from Singapore to Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam etc.

Macau is connected to China by road and Hong Kong by fast ferry and that's it without getting on a plane.
