What was the most pleasurable and enjoyable activity ya'll have enjoyed in the Philippines?
Be honest . The thread can always be moved somewhere else ...
And don't worry if it's the "obvious thing which can be done anywhere else", feel free to post it (obvious part copied from Sir Mike's response on the same thread in the 'Thailand' section).

I've enjoyed many afternoons at the Subic Bay Yacht Club. They have sumptuous dining facilities and excellent floating docks.
Fortunately, unlike the more well-known Manila Yacht Club, they also administer a selective policy on admitting guests. This keeps away most of the peasants and and expatriate riff-raff.

I can honestly say that my favourite activity in the Philippines was sitting in a pub and watching rugby league or cricket.
I also went to the cockfighting and thought that was interesting.
Did karaoke too - not bad for a night.
I really hope that doesn't offend the cultural types, nature lovers or long term expats, but that's how it was for me _________________ Wer tanzen will, muss die Musik bezahlen

I wonder which one of the three he is. Or is it all three?
He's probably none of the above. Probably bored and home alone in his beloved England ... Poor guy. _________________ Dongguan Expat - Your online Community!

Hello
My most fun times have been with a large group of expats, no matter what we were doing.
When the expat get togethers at Ratsky's in Cebu City on the last Sunday of the month were much better attended, we would have a large group of people who would want to kick on. So, we would be like a steamroller moving through the bars in and near Mango Avenue.
One of my most interesting nights was in the "Basketball Court" just off P. Del Rosario Street in Cebu City. An Englishman friend of mine (don't try and classify him as British) contacted me saying he wanted to have his eyes opened.
The basketball court is a place where taxis/cars drive in and the passengers choose the girls that interest them. I have been there drinking with other expats on a number of nights and when the cars come in, we jump up and yell, "Pick Me"! I imagine some of the people in the taxis are in shock. In any case, we are defiinetly hoping not to be picked!
The group of expats that I drank with at the basket ball court did so because for us it was local. We lived just a block away on Pelaez Street and went there when things got boring at the local bars, like "Our Place"
Anyway, on this night, there were about 5 of us. All the others were there for the first time so I was showing them around. We walked all the way through the basketball court area from P.Del Rosario Street to Sanciangko Street. On the way we passed the dregs of humanity. There are some nice places in the area including some chapels but mostly it is a very dirty place. They even have a garbage dump in the middle of it. On our way through, we passed their numerous karaoke bars, stopping at some. We received several offers of marijuana along the way and one of our group decided he had a need. After a few disappointments with negotiations, we turned around and headed back. About half way along, another member of our party decided he had an urgent need of a blow job. So we entered into negotations for that. I finished helping with negotions and came back to where the others were waiting to find a Filipino with 3 joints in his hand. I asked where is the man who wanted the
marijuana. Apparently he had already made his deal and was off with the fairies smoking one of them.
Everywhere we went, there were Filipinos trying to offer us every kind of service.
The Englishman told me the next day that he was in shock and agreed that his eyes had been opened and perhaps wider than he hoped for!
If anywould would like directions to the basketball court, check out this map:

Most interesting Jim, and thanks for the map. I'll certainly keep this in mind if I ever have the chance to go to the Philippines (fat chance, but one can hope).
So, this basketball court has girls that comes in taxis, and you guys are sitting around on the court drinking beer, and then pick out whichever girl you like? Sounds like my type of place FOR SHO!!!

You're welcome!
No, the girl are already there. The punters come in taxis and to have fun, we join the girls when the taxis come in! It costs us about usd 75c per litre (depending on the brand of beer) to drink beer while we wait. Some of the girls hang around with us while we drink.

Ah, Ok - so the girls are there, and the customers show up in cabs.
I wouldn't pick you, don't worry.
Jim, what type of positions do expats generally hold over there? Pretty much just limited to very high level managerial positions, or any chance for the younger lot to show up and still earn somewhat decently? Just curious .. _________________ Dongguan Expat - Your online Community!

Hello
It is hard to find jobs paying high foreigner level incomes. Mostly the high paying jobs are with foreign companies and were arranged with the foreign company outside the Philippines.
Mostly. all you can hope for is a job as an ESL teacher earning about P30,000 per month.
i hope this helps!

Figured, yes ... And the English teaching may not work for me either.
Hard to say what was "THE" most enjoyable activity, as I have made around 50 trips there over the past 17-18 years.
Although all have been for business, I have managed to include some sightseeing, but still have many places I would like to see.
I suppose that a trip to a remote part of Leyte (in 1991) was one of the most enjoyable. _________________ The Middle Eastern states aren't nations; they're quarrels with borders.- P. J. O'Rourke
