( Looks like they did most of the trials in Chonburi province... )
The excitement of this Thai study is about a 31% reduction in risk in HIV infection, while the article states that clear benefit was defined as reducing the risk of infection by at least 50 percent. So in esscence, the RV 144 study failed in it's expected result ( While about a 31% reduction in relative risk is promising, but not good enough to gamble your life on - it would be like playing Russian Roulette with one less bullet in the gun! )
Because of this, some could see the inherent dangers with this experimental vaccine, with people that could potentially have unprotected sex thinking they are immune.. Fortunately, the normal risk of HIV transmission is not 100%, so the 31% reduction does not mean 69% of the people are vulnerable, it only means in the group receiving this vaccine there was a 31% lower incidence of seroconversion than was seen in the control group ( the group that did not receive the vaccine ).
This study in itself isn't going to yield a long term fix. However, it may redirect the strategy of the researchers to a more powerful set of vaccines - it proves that a layered assault on various parts of the HIV infection has potential to be a gateway to the cure. This will increase interest around the world in finding new ways of layering medications to attack multiple parts of the virus ( Very cool ).
While this RV 144 vaccine is still very, very preliminary, It's a start.
( So don't you all go crazy on Wallking Street or Soi 6 just yet though! ) _________________ "Experience is Everything"

funny u mention soi 6
good friend of mine in pattaya regularly visits a girl on soi 6 because she doesnt require him to wear a condom
otherwise this guy is quite sensible
Your friend is playing playing Russian Roulette going "Bareback", in Soi 6 of all places.......That arrangement would only work if they honestly exchanged their sexual heatlh histories ( just like a regular committed couple that begins a sexual relationship ) , and the girl only *exclusively* used condoms with her other clients , and your friend did the same with other P4P girls.
There really has to be a *high* level of trust or there will always be issues of whether one person or the other is not being honest ( remember, even married couples can get STD's ).
( And this is not even touching on the not too insignificant factor of pregnancy.... )
So for everyone out there, please continue be careful and use common sense - we're really probably not going to get a workable HIV vaccine for another 30 years or so... _________________ "Experience is Everything"
