People who plan to move to, visit or are just interested in Korat are welcome to have a look. Posting is possible on boards in english, german, french and spanish. Other language boards might be added upon demand.
There is of course another concept you can use in Korat: You pay for the domain and the server, do all the work, and call it non-profit community service. If you get sick of it, you feel even sicker because there was nothing but trouble and expenses. That keeps you from pulling the plug before an ulcer.
If you want to make business you can surely invest a lot of money and work on the prospekt of having something come back . . . maybe. But if you're a pensioner you can consider it a hobby, and be surprised if some satang are paid to you. Sometimes its businesses that have ideas to keep the world on turning by making competion or supporting initiatives and arts in their business interests.
And as long as advertisement is not obtrusive making people buy things they don't want there couldn't be objections. And that gets you to the point that you do not have to do all the work; in their own interest they do make sure that your efforts are not only supplied with advertisements of interest to your audience but also that your efforts do get an audience, so they can cash in their larger part of wich they have to cover about all the costs besides what you are willing to "invest". If you want a sucessful forum you are going to have to work very hard. and I dont think you can move this to a new host as you dont have access to the files on the server.

Not to mention that subdomains are not search engine friendly. I am not trying to discourage you I just dont want you to do a lot of work for someone elses benefit.

It doesn't matter really how much money you have invested to make you feel bad if they're lost to failure. Not being responsible for your monetary investments makes you approach the whole thing easier, more like a disobliging experiment. And this disobliging nature also makes you put less pressure upon yourself. Of course if you have to eat of it, it looks very different.
Changing ads make a forum also look alive. That's what the host provides in their own interest. They promise to pay 20 % of the total advertisement revenue relatet to the number of hits your forum got. Minimum payout is $ 30.
Maybe you can give more advice about how to arrange "sponsoring" (or simply advertising) if you run it on your own etc.

I also use google ads and they provide a decent monthly revenue stream.
Google ads are setup once and then left on their own-they change by themselves-managed by google
I also have the dating website affiliate which pays even more.
There are numerous possibilites with affiliates-pay by click , not to mention getting sponsorship from ,local businesses--hotels, travel agents, guest houses, etc..

Ok, I looked up their forum. The precisest answer to one of the questions regarding the payment and revenue share was: "We calculate how much each unique hit is worth by taking 20 % of the total daily advertizing revenue and dividing it into the total amount of hits generated." I interpret this as getting as many shares of these 20 % total daily advertizing revenue as the member's forum achieved views of the total of all members' forums.
Sure, they are making money. But if they don't suppport the individual members' "venture", they're not gonna make much.
You are certainly not just making pocket money with your venture, but I guess its keeps you busy full time, running and phoning around for this and that. Our guys are beyond that level of commitment; we're retired but don't want to keep completely still, have at least our minds go on. Nobody's a pro of us; it's more hobby, trying to create something.
i have a full time job, a family and many other hobbies so I have not spent much more that 30 minutes per day on the forum.-the first 6 months-yes I spent maybe 6 hours per day.
I started mine as a hobby and did not even think about money until I saw the potential.
your hosts are not doing anything for you other than setup and backups-and software upgrades--it costs them almost nothing-and u do all the work building up the forum.

If i did it for you it would still be a subdomain--under my domain. I was not really serious about doing that for although I could--I am not prepared for it.
What I would do is register a domain name--get a cheap hosting package--50$ per year-that includes the forum software--installed I think
and take it from there. I can advise and guide you through this process if needed.--its really not that difficult.
Or better yet you start with what you have now and see how it goes--you should check with your hosts to see if its possible for you to move your forum to a different host at a later date. Your risk is that you build up a nice forum and decide later to move to a another host--you might have to start all over again.
