Hi IT experts ... anyone knows well about Mac ..especially old Mac G3 blue Tower ? My poor old G3 (bought in Perth in 99) has been left dusted and abandoned for 2 years now since we moved to KL from Jakarta two years ago. I am thinking about selling it but dont know how much I should ask .. or whether people would think I'm wasting my time. I also have old Slide scanner (forgot what brand) and Yamaha CD burner. I used to use all these for my family photographs and internet browsing of course. Now .. I have been using my tiny Fujitsu lap top and think of getting rid of old stuffs. I also I dont use the scanner anymore coz I stopped using films.... since I got digicam.
Some guys in Apple Centre told me to upgrade and keep using it because it's not worth selling it. But it costs a fortune to upgrade.
Oh also what to do with a 4 yo PC 17inch monitor ?
Thanks for the idea Mike. The thing is I dont know where to donate to and since this is Apple Mac... I dont think people use this much. PC would be easier to donate. I'll see if I hear any charity organization who would use Mac.
Some people do use Apples, especially web designers and such - but selling a PC that old may not be worth the hassle. You might could get beer money off it, but that's probably about it.
As far as just the monitor - better chance of selling THAT, I would think ...
Not sure about prices, tho ... I've never been to either KL or Jakarta.
Hi Rahul, my husband uses the G5 Mac and all kind of photography softwares. My G3 Mac was also for photography reason. My brother in law also uses Mac for his graphic design (advertising business). So yes I know many people use Mac. But how often do you find kids using Mac or ordinary people using Mac just for emails or games ... ?
I dont mind donating it if it goes to right person, and not going to waste. I dont need beer money as I dont drink beer I dont mind some cocktails money for some wednesday drinking sessions with my mates
Well.. no rush for me ... I am still in KL for another 2 years so ... plenty time to find taker
If it were Thailand it would be easy to find a school willing to take it and put it to good use.
I don't know how well equippedd the schools are where you are--do thay all have decent IT equipment already?? _________________ Asia Expats Forum Expat Friends Dating

Agree, it's only people that work with design stuff that use it really - which is why I had said it might be a bit of a pain to sell it, and you might not get that much off it ...
Actually my kids previous school, the American Intl school use macs for all kids IT classes from 5 yo onwards n staffs or teachers use them for administrations etc. But they are rich school... no need donation. They dont deserve it. My kids current school .. the British Intl school use PC.
hmm... like I said .. no rush. My poor old Mac is still in the box waiting ...
I was thinking more in the lines of your local Indonesian school. or even you local red cross might be able to use it _________________ Asia Expats Forum Expat Friends Dating
I dont live in Indonesia. So you mean local Malaysian school. I live in Kuala Lumpur now at least for the next 2 years before moving to other country for next posting.
Well I'm a lazy person when it comes to visiting local schools to find out if they need old Mac. I'll ask several expats at my kids school who knows anyone running charity organisation.
