A massive earthquake centred on Pakistan that set off mudslides, brought down multi-storey buildings and reportedly wiped out entire villages has killed at least 18,000 people and injured more than 40,000 others, an official said Sunday.
The quake triggered mudslides in both India and Pakistan, blocking highways and disrupting telecommunications links.
Worst hit in India was the town of Uri, close to the border with Pakistan, where four in five of the town's buildings were levelled and at least 120 people lost their lives.
Damage in Afghanistan was minor, though two people there were killed, a United Nations statement said. _________________ EXPAT IN CHINA
