isn't it funny the way locals and foreigners can view beauty so differently?

seems like thais think all female foreigners (caucasion) are beautiful--and you have the same sort of thing in china too?

Yup, same thing in China too.

I dont understand the difference - we expats love the local girls, but the locals themselves don't appreciate what they got ... Rolling Eyes

Is the grass always greener on the OTHER SIDE Question

also this crap about skin color--somehow we get pegged as lovers of dark-skinned people--the thais just call it black even though they are not black in western terms.

they ask me why do the expats love the blacks so much?? how do you answer that??

Heck if I know Mike -

This dark skinned light skinned is ALL a bunch of crap. In China, they always say the foreigners like the ugly girls - another crock of shit.

Heck, I've seen so many dark skinned Chinese girls that were gorgeous (and in China, dark skin is a NO-NO for girls - they think only peasants have dark skin), and I've seen stunningly beautiful light skinned girls.

In the US, I've seen beautiful white girls, as well as black girls ...

I think we as expats know more than the locals will ... or, more than than the locals CARE to know ...

its really a big thing here-ill bet if you go to a mall and check out the thai couples--9 out of 10 times the female has lighter skin color then the male.

its hard to find to find a skin cream that doesn't advertise itself as a skin whitener.

working on that business plan to develop a recreational drink that can advertise itself as a skin whitener--will make a fortune

Big thing here too - most of the Chinese couples here are the same ... the girls have much lighter skin than the guys and are overly concerned over skin color ...

Which is fine, but it gets to be silly when they don't like to stay out in the sunshine too long ... just for fear of getting a tan.

In fact I've heard girls with darker skin have trouble getting married! Shocked

And compare that to what the white girls in the US want - they love tans!

Interesting, eh. Razz

Funny thing is, I'm not Caucasian ... my skin's sort of a light brown color, I'd say. So going by all this light skinned debate, one would think the girls prefer lighter skinned men for the most part.

Never had trouble with girls here, though ... Mr. Green (I mean never had trouble doing what BPR converts do;) ).

Actually when it comes to men, the main concern these days is the wallet, not the skin color. Twisted Evil

Of course, it's different for girls ...

weve slippede way off topic but so what--its in the culture section as it should be.

what kills me is seeing these thai men at the golf course--men of all ages-with darkskin already , wearing long pants, long sleeve shirts, and caking themselves in sunscreen lotions-, and breaking out the sun umbrella--all on a cloudy day , all on a cloudy day- i love it.

and then for me it doesn't matter--when i go into work on monday all rednecked and sunburnt--they say " oh , you played golf this weekend"

they know i am white -the point being--its not the color that matters.... its the color you were born with that matters - try to hide and change via creams etc..

Yes, many people don't like the color they were born with.

Not the case here ... occasion

neehhh....i've also gone through that wanting-to-be-light-skinned phase...i think it was way back in college...don't ask how long ago that was Wink

it's not just women anyway- most foreign guys tend to want to have a darker or tanned skin too...but most of them just end up frying in the sun Embarassed

I've never gone through any such phase. Perfectly happy with my skin being the way it is!! Very Happy

Well, some Caucasian guys do tend to want to get a tan, but it's still women for the most part, I think. Smile It's silly though - Caucasian women (in fact, ALL races) look pretty with their "natural" white skin - then they go destroying it by spending hours under the tanning lamp ... very silly! uhm
