MANILA (AP) The Philippines made a final appeal Tuesday to Japan to delay new visa rules that will limit the number of Filipinos entering the country on entertainer visas, as part of an effort to crack down on human-trafficking.
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's Office of External Affairs called on Japan to implement a 2 1/2-year transition period to allow Filipino performing artists who want to work in Japan to adjust to the new rules.
Japanese officials say the new rules are meant to protect foreign female entertainers from illegal job recruiters who trick them into working as bar hostesses or sex workers.
The Philippine government had earlier asked Tokyo for a five-year postponement. But Masaru Watanabe, minister for general affairs at the Japanese Embassy in Manila, last week said guidelines on the new visa policy have been approved and would be implemented "very soon."
Japanese officials said the change is part of a policy adopted in December to fight human-trafficking.
In a position paper, the presidential agency also asked Japan to accept certification by employers, job recruiters or the Philippine government of Filipinos who work or have worked in Japan as a substitute for formal schooling.
The RP Govt and Gloria, are cracking down on cybersex dens in the Philippines, whilst encouraging Filipinas to go abroad to work in sex dens.
On one recent case, one girl said she earned $500 a week, (the average wage there is about $1,200 a YEAR), and, according to the government, "she is being exploited for showing her body to men".

Yes. The RP Govt doesnt want any cuts in the number of entertaienrs going to Japan, but if they assume that all are there as dancers etc, they are either stupid, naive, or ill informed.
Hence, they have been fighting the proposed cut in the number of Filipina entertainers going there.
At the same time, they are cutting such things as cyber sex operations in the Philippines, because it is exploitation and selling sex is wrong.

I doubt most work for sex! Actually they do sing and dance in night clubs every where and I must say they are good entertainers but then again it's not the only jobs they take (since i know, most also work as caretakers, maids, nurses, doctors, construction works, factory works, etc) I pay worship for those who actually educate them selfs and work as doctors and nurses aboard! I know alot who are those..
