Phishing is the fastest growing method of fraud on the Internet.
Whilst I am sure that everyone here knows not to respond to emails "asking to verify your bank account", the fraudsters are getting more subtle and devising ways to find the information they want.
Enter the anti-phishing add-ons.
I use Deepnet as a browser, and that has an anti-phishing facility built in.
However, if you use Internet Explorer, you might like to download NETCRAFT.
This adds a single line to the IE browser, which shows the risk rating of each site you visit, warns if you are on a phishing site, and even tells you where each site you visit is hosted, what other sites they host, etc.

which my browser for one reported as Not Found (Already Removed), and for two had two warnings pop up, one from Google toolbar:
Web Forgery This page has very likely to have been designed to trick users into sharing financial or personal information. Entering any personal information on this page may result in identidy theft or other fraud. . . .
The other from the Netcraft toolbar:
The page you are trying to visit has been blocked by the Netcraft toolbar because it is believed to be part of a fraudulent phishing attack . . .
Though I am not having a Paypal account, still thanks to Google and Netcraft for the warnings. I recommend installations of both toolbars.
I can understand that people who actually do have a Paypal account react in panic, fearing they might loose something, if they don't react fast, forget about necessary care, and get tricked into releasing their passwords _________________ Thailand Forum - Korat Forum..
I get tons of these phishing mails--hard to tell which ones are real. I always back out and enter a url manually rather than click on any of these links.
Netcraft seems like a good safety shield for those who are unsure of the site they are accessing.
One general rule is that you should never have to provide any of your account details to any website.
Ill bet lots of people make a decent living of of the info they gather from these phoney sites--it rarley gets publicized but it runs into the billions every year _________________ Asia Expats Forum Expat Friends Dating
I get these emails from all over the world asking me to update my details on my bank accounts from supposed banks and I've never even heard of them let alone banked with them - enter the delete button...
I never click on the links from any of these sort of emails - even though I do have a Paypal account it is so easy to see the difference between an email from them and one from a phisher...
I even sent a copy of a phishing email to Paypal along with a WHOIS type trace report - they responded quickly and said they will investigate it...
I imagine nothing came of it but it's good to see they are responing at the very least...
Netcraft does look like a good download too - just don't tell Muddy or he'll get on his Mac wagon again...

Mike - the real ones will (are supposed to) include a part of your credit card number (and not just the first 4 numbers) to indicate that it's the real deal...
When I notified Paypal of a phisher in their response they had a demo of what the real emails should look like and still recommended using the link saved in my favourites to access the account...
Plus Paypal say that they will never ask people to click on a link to update their accounts etc...
