How about using a different browser, like Firefox, Opera, Netscape Navigator, etc. I use Firefox, i feel safer. Dunno if its true. But the advantages on security i think is the built in pop-up blocker and lesser chance on getting spyware.
Aside of the safety, it is a much better browsing experience. Much more efficient and you can choose a theme you like to please the eye. Have a look: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

I have been using AVG (anti virus) Spy bot (anti spyware) Spyseeker (anti spyware), The new MS one, plus the usual firewall etc.
I decided to try a different anit-malware (spyware, trojan, worm, etc) programme.
It found 3 (spyware) that all the others had missed.
On checking some back up disks, it found some that had been missed in the past.
