I don't actually mean you or me but ... whatever... anyways I came to Shanghai, China 5 months ago and I noticed that a lot of europeans were closet racists along with those from arab countries. I happen to be very open about racism and I often make racist jokes however I have a limit on how racist it can be, but when I hang around Europeans I hear them talk big about how other races especially the Chinese here in China are undeveloped, dumb, and everything else you can think of... I also have some problems with the Chinese here, but I don't take it as serious as a lot of these Europeans. I also often hear some really bad things between the muslims and christians when noone on the other side is around(I think they're both stupid cause I don't believe in anything not even them). When I came here I made friends with French person and a Australian person... of course me and the Australian got a long quite well coming from the same kind of culture and liking the same things as well and were generally pretty open towards new things despite how miserable and racist we seemed. Then the French person who was a closet racist kept suprising us with these unreasonable reasons why to shun other races just because of ... because! We went out to eat and were deciding what kind of food to eat, I said Korean food would be pretty nice in this cold weather and the Aussie agreed, then the french guy shook his head and told us and I'm not overexaggerating anything "Korean food?...uh... Koreans aren't good" then we replied "You don't like Korean food?" the he replied "no I never ate Korean food.. but the Koreans..." I laughed a bit and then asked why he didn't like Koreans then he replied "I just don't" OK good reason why to shun Korean everything. This wasn't the only case of really bad racism but there was many more especially when it came to muslims and for some odd reason he really liked isrealis despite being a proud catholic or hindu or whatever the [FOUR LETTER WORD] he was. Of course our friendship with him quickly fell apart because we got sick of each other, me and the aussie got sick of his bullshit about how france is so great, how hes so great, how theres no such thing as bad things and how unicorns and bunny rabbits run freely around France and the French just left us because... uh... he uh... I don't know why really, I think its because someone heard him talking about racist shit so he wanted to pin it on us cause we were pretty open about it. I heard from another friend that he went around telling others that I was a huge racist and that I wanted everyone to be nuked, ok first of all I am openly racist but thats because I've accepted my racist side and say what I think and joke around a bit to a point, I don't go around saying "Koreans suck just cause", I actually make fun of the people I know the most about, but does it stop me from engaging in their culture, or being friends with them? No. And don't think you other europeans are different either, just cause the guy is French doesn't mean that since you don't like French people it automatically would make people like myself to think people like yourself "on my side" of goodness or whatever. Am I going to hold it against the French for producing such a person? No not really honestly speaking I never had a high opinion about french speaking people thanks to Quebec but it doesn't mean I will shun them all.
Remember people of whatever background, people are people, just cause a lot are rotten doesn't mean the whole group is. If your going to be a little racist jerk about it, then at least know your limit of how far you should actually get into it.
Isnt it a shock when we see hear racists comments from a seemingly intelligent human being?
Then there are those who actually try to back up their raciscm with scientific fact.
I found the arabs to be some of the most racist people I have ever known--to many of them .. non-muslin asians are the equivalent of dogs.
What I hate are those who make rascist comments privately but then change their stance in public--hypocrits _________________ Asia Expats Forum Expat Friends Dating

I like!
Sounds like a French "backing up their racism with scientific fact."

they have unicorns in korea as well- north that is
.... and don't forget about the little island in the extreme North of Korea, called Sinanju. Home of the assassins for hire. The island head man is a man named Chiun, and as many from Sinanju goes by only one name.
There are few of the remaining unicorns in the world on this island.
If you dislike everyone, are you still racist? _________________ The Middle Eastern states aren't nations; they're quarrels with borders.- P. J. O'Rourke
Did you notice that people tend to air their racism a lot louder while being in third countries? I have been quite often in Britain, but certainly I have seen a lot more British in Thailand complaining about Hitler having attacked their country more than 60 years ago, when they were either babies or not born yet, and that therefore all Germans today are Nazis.
As long as people stick to nicks like for example Kraut for me as German, I'm comfortable and call them maybe cangaroos if they're aussies. But I never know what to say to a brit who thinks it funny to call me Nazi. Never saw that in Britain before or anywhere else by other nationalities. What are brits missing here in Thailand if they start to expose themselves like that? Lately there come lot of them up here, new mail-order-service, I guess. But they don't behave like in Britain. _________________ Thailand Forum - Korat Forum..
Looks like I was waiting in vain for Mike to delete the double post. Guess he thought it important to leave it for people to read it a second time. _________________ Thailand Forum - Korat Forum..

Klaus, I think the simple answer in more crude terms is "most of their brains and good judgement"
and its not solely the Brits, but probably all nationalities. Not to generalize, but I think you find expats here in Thailand of all nationalities ae riddled with a greater percentage of "misfits" People who cant make it back home and relocate here or elsewhere to make themselves feel superior in some way.
Want a good examples of jerks, read in the TV Forum about the American guy who got killed by his Canadian girlfriend a couple weeks ago . The tone in which some of these people write, is not only nasty but, to me lowering themselves into the gutter. But the anonymity makes these lowlifes very very brazen.
So I would say that the average joe of any nationality is not truly represented in many of that particular nationality living here.

Like most Brits, I much prefer the Germans to the French.
We ended the 100 years war FAR too soon. lol
But, to be serious, I think Toopeekaa is right. _________________ The Middle Eastern states aren't nations; they're quarrels with borders.- P. J. O'Rourke
Some (OK, many) years ago the comedy/singing duo of Flanders & Swan did a song called: The English".
The English
(Flanders & Swan)
The rottenest bits of these islands of ours
We've left in the hands of three unfriendly powers
Examine the Irishman, Welshman or Scot
You'll find he's a stinker as likely as not
The English the English the English are best
I wouldn't give tuppence for all of the rest
The Scotsman is mean as we're all well aware
He's boney and blotchy and covered with hair
He eats salty porridge, he works all the day
And hasn't got bishops to show him the way
The English the English the English are best
I wouldn't give tuppence for all of the rest
The Irishman now our contempt is beneath
He sleeps in his boots and he lies through his teeth
He blows up policemen or so I have heard
And blames it on Cromwell and William the Third
The English are moral the English are good
And clever and modest and misunderstood
The Welshman's dishonest, he cheats when he can
He's little and dark more like monkey than man
He works underground with a lamp on his hat
And sings far too loud, far too often and flat
The English the English the English are best
I wouldn't give tuppence for all of the rest
And crossing the channel one cannot say much
For the French or the Spanish, the Danish or Dutch
The Germans are German, the Russians are red
And the Greeks and Italians eat garlic in bed
The English are noble, the English are nice
And worth any other at double the price
And all the world over each nation's the same
They've simply no notion of playing the game
They argue with umpires, they cheer when they've won
And they practice before hand which spoils all the fun
The English the English the English are best
I wouldn't give tuppence for all of the rest
It's not that they're wicked or naturally bad
It's just that they're foreign that makes them so mad
The English are all that a nation should be
And the pride of the English are Chipper and me
The English the English the English are best
I wouldn't give tuppence for all of the rest _________________ The Middle Eastern states aren't nations; they're quarrels with borders.- P. J. O'Rourke
Thanks Alan,
That is about the attitude a lot (too many) of those newcomers or declare-to-be-soon-comers from Britain express up here. Can use that text for next time they ride a cultural attack.
