In the UK we have companies large and small collapsing every day.
A lot of us have said for many years, that you cant build an economy by taking in each others washing, but that is what our government has encouraged.
Whilst it does add to GDP, neither the "service industry" nor finance are a stable base for an economy.
Meanwhile, we have lost manufacturing, mainly due to govt actions, and, in previous recessions, it has been manufacturing that has dragged us out of it.
This present downturn will last 5 years, and even then things wont get back to, what people have been used to calling "normal".
The big problem with "globalisation", an idea that only benefits big business, is that any recession will also be global, so everyone suffers, and there is no economy that avoids it and can drag others out of it. _________________ The Middle Eastern states aren't nations; they're quarrels with borders.- P. Things keep going down for small people too. For example I got a condo in Germany near Frankfurt Airport. Used to be easy to find a tenant for it. Last summer my last tenant had a fire in it. No prob so far, got insurance. They completely renovated it (about $25.000) except the carpet floor. Not only did my last tenant not pay the last three months rent, I gotta invest again for the new floor to find a tenant. And they're scarce now. _________________ Thailand Forum - Korat Forum..
