wish they had that service when i lived up there. every 90 days usually took a train or plane to bkk then another train to penang-- and then back again ---man that sucked

It's a nice, easy run. For those of you whom are the brave ones and drive in Northern Thailand, it's a nice scenic drive if your driving from the Fang, Mae Ai, or Tha Thon side (great curvy bike or mountain bike run). The Chiang Mai - Chiang Rai highway run is also nice - but not as extreme as the other highway. Lots of decent buys from hilltribe road stalls along the way. DON'T speed when getting near Ch. Rai and Mae Sai!!

there are some great akha villages on that route between thaton and mae salong.

there is one that cant be more more that 100 meters odff teh road but is hidden behind a hill--great ahka village all of the villagers wearing their tribal gear.

i used to spend a lot time dirtbiking in that area--extreme fun
