How easy is it to remit money OUT of the Philippines for foreigners living/working there?
It's not that easy to do in most third world countries ... Just curious to hear what others think ... _________________ Dongguan Expat - Your online Community!
Quite easy. Especially if you have bought money in to the country, or are running a legitimate business. _________________ The Middle Eastern states aren't nations; they're quarrels with borders.- P. J. O'Rourke
There are some smaller banks to whom International is an unknown word. For local banking they are fine, but that is all. _________________ The Middle Eastern states aren't nations; they're quarrels with borders.- P. J. O'Rourke
Let's say you earn an income there (legit, with taxes and everything paid).
Can you log on to your bank account online, click a few buttons, and remit money whereever you want to? This is how I do it from HK ...
I do that using my account at HSBC in Manila, but you can only remit internationally from foreign currency accounts using their internet banking, not from Peso accounts.

So, I guess one has to convert the pesos into $$ first - THEN remit ... is this easy to do
Of course, I guess having foreign currency accounts shouldn't be a problem w/HSBC - especially for foreigners. _________________ Dongguan Expat - Your online Community!

I've never tried doing that, but I do know you can't do it online. You'd probably have to go to the bank and apply in person, possibly giving reasons for why you were converting the Pesos.
Holding foreign currency accounts is no problem, either for foreigners or for Filipinos.

Hello
The one time I wanted to do that at the Western Union office in Ormoc City, it came as a shock to the employees as they had never done such a thing but it was certainly possible.
