Many fraudsters have set up their operations in SE Asia.
Some mimic legitimate firms whilst others just use the normal boiler room techniques to entice people to invest with them.

A good rule, is that if it seems too good to be true, that is because it ISNT true!!
PS. anyone wanna buy Sydney Harbour Bridge?
Going cheap because this nice Nigerian gentleman wants me to take care of his spare cash for him!!!
had a "friend" here that made a living scamming investors--last I heard it was aussies who were the targets. he would cold call people and sell "pre" ipo stock investments. the beauty was that he told the suckers that as pre ipo companies public info was not available--only from his website. was actually milking people out of thousands of dollars-- This guy just disappeared one day-owing his roommate over 100 k in baht _________________ Asia Expats Forum Expat Friends Dating

thats a great link Alan.. As much as you hate drug dealers and drug users I hate people who scam honest hard working people out of their hard earned savings.
Amazing how long that list goes on and I'm sure my ex "friend" was somehow associated with one of those on the list. _________________ Asia Expats Forum Expat Friends Dating
The number 419 refers to the legislation in Nigeria under which these people can be prosecuted.
Whilst it started there, it has now spread to all corners of the globe.
The figures involved are amazing with some of them taking tens of millions of Dollars.
For some reason, the majority of those that get caught are Americans.
Dont know why, but whoevere they are, it is a shame.

I dont know if it is because there are so many with money, or because some are so naive, but nevertheless, these scammers get most of their income from the US.

Im not surprised that americans get taken so easily--They probably are suckers for a nice British accent selling investments for Steinly Morgan
and I'll bet its not the rich AMericans that get taken , its the middle-upper middle class family who has saved and or built up a nice equity in their home. They would easily have 10-50K cash to invest
I remember specificaly that my "friend" and his group were targeting Aussies for some reason. All done by mobile phone _________________ Asia Expats Forum Expat Friends Dating
Among the Americans I know are some of the nicest and most generous people in the world.
Also, some of the most arrogant, some of the most naive, and some of the most greedy and selfish.
Overall, with so much money in the US, it is hardly surprising that the scammers would target them, and, then go down the list of countries where people have large disposable incomes.
It is rarely the "old money" people who are victims, but those who have recently aquired it, perhaps because they dont have the experience.
Also, it is VERY hard to scam anyone who isnt greedy.
