The website business has great potential. How many small businesses in Thailand do not have a website? Thousands
Theres money to be made in selling these business simple websites that they can be easily updated by local admin staff etc..
Expat business should be targeted first. How much would they be willin to pay for a simple site that they could update content themselves?-- no tech knowledge involved no coding--How much could I charge to maintain that site for them per year??

I have ideas about numbers already but would like some feedback
Sir Mike -
I too would be very interested to know.
I've contacted a few companies about this sort of thing. Nothing concrete has happened but let's see - hope springs eternal as they say!
What are the numbers like in Thailand?? Just curious ...
I'm talking grass roots here--door to door hard sell to expat restaurant/hotel bar owners etc...
you could offer them a simple professional looking content management system wher they could add news and photos etc.., do SEO for them, maintain for a year, there own .com name, and hosting and charge how much?? I don't know. How much do you think is fair for that service?? _________________ Asia Expats Forum Expat Friends Dating

Well, for the domain, I'd just charge them a round figure of what it cost me to register ($8.88 gets rounded off to $9). Simple.
But for the other stuff ... it all depends on the need. And how one markets this ... I've yet to really get into this sort of thing with a lot of expat estabilishments here in Dongguan, but I've contacted people in Beijing, Shenzhen ...
I would charge about 1/2 of what a US person charges for the same thing ... negotiable, of course. Note this is in China, you may have to go lower in Thailand ... not sure.
In the US, a simple site could cost anywhere from USD500-USD1500, depending on how much the customer can/is willing to pay. Maintaining it ... hmm, I would say at least another US 200 per month ...
That would be nice but you wont get many customers at those rates--I am talking barebones website--a simple mambo CMS would do most small mom and pop businesses fine. Install it in 30 minutes.. train them on how to add and manpulate the content, photos and then forget about it--only needing to update versions as they came along. I am thinking 200-500$ per year. Or --a one time setup fee 100$ and then permission to put your own google ads on their sites--and 100$ per year maintenance fee.

I'm talking make these people an offer they cant refuse
I agree - which is why I said negotiable ... and it all depends on WHO the customer is. For example, I may do it free for a start-up business just to build a portfolio - know what I'm saying??
Anyway, I thought you meant administering the whole site for a year, not just upgrading. For just upgrading, I would say the amount would be way lower. Probably 1/4th of what they paid to set it up.
As far as the google ads buisness, well, not sure. If it's their site, not sure if they'd want me putting my ads on it. Then again, it all depends on how you negotiate the contract. Perhaps you could negotiate a deal where you charge a lower amount, but put your google ads on there ...
I did 2 sites for some friends for free--never again. Our agrement was that I would set up the sites, provide some training and then they would take it over. We never got to the training stage--they could not find anyone who could do that so they kept sending me stuff to put on their site. My mistakee was the site was too complicated for them.
There is some great content management software called mambo which is extremely user friendly and easy to install etc.. _________________ Asia Expats Forum Expat Friends Dating

Oh yes I know how that goes ... which is why I'm a bit leery when people talk about "doing it for free".
I know it's gotta be done. But I don't want to be taken advantage of (and the same thing happened to me too, Mike ...) ...
And even if the sites are not too complicated, they'd say it's complicated ...
On the other hand some people think a lot of work goes into setting up a website when in reality a decent site can be up and running in no time _________________ Asia Expats Forum Expat Friends Dating
