To copy a line from the well-respected Fox News, for a "Fair And Balanced" view of Mississippi, the following facts are submitted for your consideration.
3rd lowest average teacher salary of all states.
2nd highest infant mortality rate of all states.
3rd lowest number of doctor's per population of all states.
5th lowest of all states for percentage of the population with a bachelor's degree or higher.
4th highest unemployment rate of all states.
4th highest level of all states for traffic fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles.
and a honorific 1st Place for the highest percentage of the population living below the poverty line.
All the above courtesy of U.S. Census Bureau (gotta love their website motto: "Helping you to make informed decisions")
Let me qualify my comments by saying that I've travelled Mississippi extensively and found it a geographically gorgeous area with many fine people... but it certainly does seem to have more than it's share of problems.
Thats easy to figure,,not many doctors cause people are healthy,,
lots of traffic fatalities cause they got shine there that you CAN drink.,
lots of folks don't work cause they don't have to,,they are Demo liberals on the dole.
Teachers work cheap cause the kids are intelligent and easy to teach.
I have seen lots of folks with Bachelors degrees and higher digging ditches,,a lot of folks are just educated beyond their intelligence.
I also know a lot of people that live below the poverty line and stay out of the fast lane because they are happy just the way they are and raise good kids with love instead of delinquents by substituting cars and vidio games for a parent at home with his family instead of gridlock for 8 hrs a day after working 12 in a cubicle.
Hahahahaha...I can't recall rationalization ever being taken to such extremes before. I do realize, however, that reality can sometimes be a bitter pill to take. You forgot one though, 2nd highest infant mortality rate. How to rationalize that one?
Plus 2 more:
#1 State Ranked by Percent of Population 25 and Over Without a High School Diploma
One of the most active states for the Ku Klux Klan (even thought it's 2004).
I think that the Knights Of the Clan are a fair org. and thought that you would too.
Due to the fact that they are also into human rights and the protection of women again abuse, or didn't you know that??
Pobly not as you most likely just read LIBERAL NEWS and pay no attn. to what is actually going on around you...
I wish they would find that IGNORE button so I wouldn't have to read your idiotic shit. It is just a waste of time.
The only freaking problem we have here is crap headed Yankees coming down here trying to impose their screwed up way of life on something we like as is & a paper tiger in Thailand who hasn't a clue to what he is talking about that got his ego slapped out of him, While i have never denigrated Thailand, Why does such an imbecile attempt to put down a state because he doesn't like one individual that thinks he's an idiot & rightly so since he only has derision & abusive comments on another's posts while offering nothing of substance of his own, Really makes you wonder just why such childish antics are allowed.
How right you are MAG, and it is really up front that he knows nothing about the clan,, and if ever it is heard that a fella is abusing his wife, most generally some of the knights will pay the man a visit and have a little talk with him about his bad habits and generally he see the error of his ways. The clan is a very friendly neighborhood improvement oriented org.
Mag, fascinating that you do not see underpaid teachers as a problem? or a high rate of babies dying as a problem? or understaffing of doctors as a problem? or an
under-educated population as a problem? or highway carnage as a problem? or unemployment as a problem? or even poverty as a problem?
What is the basis for your preposterous claim that my "ego has been slapped"?
As I clearly defined in my post, I was not attempting to denigrate the state of Mississippi...only pointing out that it has plethora of problems and is not perhaps the idyllic, progressive wonderland that you protrayed. Remember, "Fair and balanced."
Kevin, it's interesting to note your defense of the Klan even though it's principles clearly contradict your own, barring your membership. Does your Thai wife support these Klan views?

been to miss. along the gulf coast and it's quite beautiful with some very friendly people. not surprised that kevin defends the kkk as he seems to lack the ability to analyze anything. these right wing reactionaries are so easily manipulated that their moronic opinions are totally without merit. some media outlet told them what to think and they parrot those thoughts. when i asked what liberal values he [kevin] objects to, he never responded. he just knows he has "no use for liberals". that's the extent of his intellect and eloquence. sad to say that too many americans share his limitations, that's why the clan still exists and a coward lives in the white house. this is why america will never win the war against terrorism because it's the biggest terroist nation on the planet. sleep tight. jocko

IDIOT SIGHTING: When my husband and I arrived at an automobile dealership to pick up our car, we were told the keys had been locked in it. We went to the service department and found a mechanic working feverishly to unlock the driver's side door. As I watched from the passenger side, I instinctively tried the door handle and discovered that it was unlocked. "Hey," I announced to the technician, "it's open!" To which he replied, "I know - I already got that side." This was at the Ford dealership in Canton, Mississippi!
