I have had a SCB visa card for over a year. Have kept it for emergencies and have used it once. Yesterday I get in the mail a SCB Mastercard which I never asked for.
How can that be? They just send cards out like that? In the mail?
seems that SCB is having a promotion
wondering whether the new card has a new limit or shares the same limit with the visa? _________________ =============

same credit limit as the visa card--also it is set to withdraw automatically from my scb bank account.
When I signed up for my scb visa card i dont remember anything about the yearly charges but so far i been charged 2000 baht for that. I expect that if I dont cancel this mastercard they will also try to charge me 2000 baht per year charges.
I remember that they used to do that in the states too,,I got all kinds of credit cards in the mail back in the 60s.
When I got my private pilots license I got one from every co. there was then, plus charge cards from all gasoline/oil companys.
I used to look at them for awhile, and because I did drink to access quite regularly, I did the smart thing,,cut them all in 3 pieces and threw them in the garbage. Then when I started to drink and fly, I did the same with the license.

It's a good thing that the Thai Postal Service is so reliable. Otherwise, someone could have intercepted your unsolicited MasterCard and charge it all up without your knowledge until the bill came.

I had not used my thai visa card for 10 months and one day decided to buy some stuff in Central department store. I had not even signed the card yet. They told me to sign the card----oK then never asked me for any ID as I bought 15K worth of stuff.
The new card I received in the mail has number to call to activate the card. Proablably any farang could call and activate it.
I don't know much about the interest on Thai CC. as we never use them,, If we are somewhere and see something that we want and do not have the cash, we use an american Visa or M/C..
I know you got to be kidding about the interest rate on Thai savings acct. , I have never figured it, but it looks minimal to me., and we do maintain an acct. in the states.
I make the monthly deposits to our Thai acct. that Immigration wants to see thru a Visa ATM/CHECK card on an american acct,,sometimes it is free and sometimes 60 baht for the transfer,,sure beats $30 to $50 SWIFT transfer.
first you need to open an account with the local bank and you can't if you are not holding a work permit
next do a bank to bank transfer from origin to Thailand
fill up some forms at the local bank
make copies of the forms and submit them to immigration _________________ =============

If not so scary, that's funny that they asked you to sign the card like that. And then just allow you to charge up that sum.
And yes, not likely that activating the MC card would have been difficult for someone else to do, given their stringent security measures....
How do u prove to immigration that you are bringing money into thailand? ATM receipts??
Most of the things Lius said I did not do,,
I opened an account at SCB when I first came here on a 60 day tourist visa and all banks will open an acct. if you have a non immig. visa, now the laws might have changed someplaces, but not at my bank, I make the cash transfer from my US bank to my Thai bank with the US ATM?CHECK card, like writing a check but done electronicly and the money is transfered right in the cirrus machine as far as I know, because it is an immediate deposit in my Thai acct. The bank sometimes charges me 60 baht, but sometimes no charge as I think I am the only farang that does business with my branch. and it is made with a credit card like machine that gives me the same reciept that you get with a credit card purchase. and they update my pass book, and when I go to immigration, they look at my book and they can tell by the codes of the deposit that it is made with funds from a US bank.
Immigration says that you must have XXXX amount of money in a Thai bank acct. to get a non immig."O" visa be it retired, married or what ever. so it would have to be possible to open that acct. or no one would have the visas because they insist on seeing the book.
