finally got my thai drivers license yesterday.
Defineately not a foreigner friendly process.
as I did not have a valid drivers license from elsewhere I had to go through the same tests as a fisrt time driver would.
corruption? I tried to find a way to "pay" for a license but seems like the authorities are clamping downa bit on that. _________________ Asia Expats Forum Expat Friends Dating

I know this is an old thread, but I only joined the other day, so be nice to me. I got my licenses last Wednesday-car and bike-2.5.hours, about a zillion forms and 160b. They're good for 12 months then it's every 5 years. Mrs Bob told me that after that rich t#at killed and injured people at the bus stop the other day, the authorities really tightened up on who they dole them out to. I think her exact words were "darlig, you lucky man mak mak, I take good care you licen...you give me money, ka!
Bless her!
It is funny that the Thai's even have drivers licenses. The way people drive is crazy! The only thing that determines the right of way is the size of you vehicle.
On my last trip, I saw four fatal motorbike crashes (not accidents).
Only crazy people (and Thai people) drive in Thailand.
The tests are quite strange though actually, everything is done in 3 small rooms, 1 for braking, 1 for testing color, and another for looking at distance. _________________ Asian Dating Bangkok Apartments Melbourne SEO

I have heard many people say they try to pay the examiner to pass the driving test and no one ever said they accepted the bribe and made them do it properly.

Me and a Pal went to do ours, FINALLY as we had both been living here 5 years, so off we went to the Pattaya Licensing HQ, I was prepared as my Pal was not, first in the cue we were, only to be told we needed more copies of this and that, we have a car licence but needed the motorbike one.
Be calm I said to my pal as he was already growling, so back to the cue and we were now number 10 & 11, so upstairs and sat, 10 mins and go to sit and pay, back to sit and wait, back to another desk and give papers, go back and sit and wait, I was calm as I expected this, my pal was getting edgy.
So then to the 30 questions theory, you have a multi choice set of questions on a computer screen,I had done a little research and my pal too but he is a little lacking in understanding things and was panicking after about the 3rd question, I advised him to take his time etc but when I had finished albeit a bit quick in little over 5 mins, and I told him I got a pass up on my screen so he rushed and got a fail.
He was not happy and ranted at me saying why they would have a road sign with 2 phones on, I asked what he was talking about and it was the sign for narrow bridge he was on about, so off we trotted and had to return at 1pm, me to do my actual drive round the curcuit and him to do the theory again.
By the time I finished my test and passed & went upstairs to get my shiny new licence my pal was just about to go and sit his theory again so I was going to try to help him but the lady led him to the back of the room, ah I though, she thinks I was going to help him but she answered the first 10 questions for him, I could only assume she did it to get rid of him but he still failed and went onto to fail 3 more times, 5 times in all.
He then went and bought an iffy one somewhere and a week later was in BKK and got pick pocketed, it was hilarious and couldn't have written it.
ONLY IN THAILAND

Its one of those occasions where you have to be patient, I have seen Farangs getting irate because maybe the Thai ways are not as efficient as western ways but thats how it is, ok it takes longer than maybe it would in the west but you know how much of a head ache it is to do your test etc in the UK now.
Here compared to their is a doddle, just remember its Thailand and because its how they do it dont say its wrong.
