Dear Mr. Q. Are you sure you'd like to discuss the ashes?
Ouch, ouch and triple ouch

Australia set England a mammoth task of saving the first Ashes Test at the Gabba by posting a huge first innings total of 9-602 declared.
Having toiled hard in the sun for little reward for over five sessions, England's inexperienced top order now faces a searching test on a wicket where cracks have begun to open, which will bring Australia's quicks and legspinner Shane Warne into play at one of his favourite venues.
England requires 403 to avoid the follow-on, with over three days left to play.

The match is over and the Australians made good on all their pre-match posturing by administering a beating.
This will be a long series and one has only to look back at 2005 to see that the first match isn't necessarily indicative of what will follow.
I must say I'm aghast at the underhanded tactics of these colonial cricketing authorities, namely deliberately separating pockets of English supporters and banning our trumpet player.
Onward to Adelaide. I do hope they pick young Panesar. he shows a great deal of promise. _________________ Spare us your professional annotations - they are irrelevant!
As an American, I say come on boys , put some thought into this Ashes Thing...... two groups of grown men running around for days fighting over some what ??? .... Ashes......
Why I would bet that at this point, nobody even remembers what the ashes were before they were burned.....
The leftovers from Geoffry Boycotts Liposuction....
Well maybe it beats waiting around the old folks home for some lady with Parkinsons......

Oh dear. Another American charging into the fray with no idea of what to say or do. _________________ Spare us your professional annotations - they are irrelevant!

I'd like to discuss the second match if you will, Quasimodo.
Even without the best English team on the field, things are back to normal with some good, old-fashioned English dominance. It's almost three in the morning here in England, but I shan't go to bed until at least one more Australian wicket falls.
One of the reasons I regard these colonials with great affection is that they can swing from bombastic cockiness to abject grovelling in the space of twenty-fours and still be eager to share a drink or two.
Ponting is looking a little bit edgy out in the middle. One would think that Hussey is captaining the side judging by their demeanour. He's on 57 now but I shall be very surprised if he gets past 70. _________________ Spare us your professional annotations - they are irrelevant!

Oh dear. Another American charging into the fray. The Ashes are the charred remnants of sporting equipment burned after a match played in 1880. Surely, this is worth fighting for? It's cricket, old chap.

After todays result I bet you won't want to talk about cricket - ummmm what's that 2-0 down now...
It had to have been the best single day of cricket in a bloody long time...
As for the trumpet player - sorry but most Aussie grounds have banned people from taking instruments for some years now - something about other people wanting to watch cricket/football etc...

Umm, let's not. What a collapse . . . similarities to pyjama cricket (One-Day matches) spring to mind with that batting collapse.
Two down and I doubt very much if England can get even one Test Match under their belt, given their absurdly batchy and sorely lacking form. No doubt the Aussies are pumped up, but let's face it, Mc Grath and Warnie are both ast their prime but are giving the England batsmen a shellacking.
Doom and Gloom for the rest of the series and Englanbd, I'm afraid.
