THE Department of Tourism (DOT) is embarking on several programs, including the conduct of a two-day "home stay and tour guide training" for interested homeowners who want to venture into tourism-related business, in preparation for the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival celebrated next month.
DOT Western Mindanao Regional Director Ricardo San Juan on Monday said this is in preparation for tourists coming to the city next month and who cannot be accommodated in tourism accredited local hotels and pension houses.
San Juan said the tourism accredited hotels and pension houses could only accommodate as many as 1,500 occupants at one time and this could fall short as thousands of domestic and foreign tourists and balikbayans are coming to this city next month.
The domestic, foreign and balikbayans are coming here to grace the two-week long Wow! I love Philippines, Biaje Na! of the DOT, first Karera de Zamboanga eco-adventure challenge, and the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival that will serve as the highlight of the celebration of the feast of Our Lady of the Pillar.
The Wow! I Love Philippines, Biaje Na! kicks off October 8, while the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival is on October 1.
The first Karera de Zamboanga Hermosa Festival, with participants nationwide, will be on October 14.
San Juan said they envisioned to train 40 house owners who have extra or vacant rooms at home that could accommodate visitors for a fee during next month's festivities.
Student leaders who wish to undergo the two-day training, from Sept. 28 to 29, are also welcome to learn how to handle tourists who would be accommodated on school dormitories.
After the two-day home stay and tour guide training, the DOT regional office will also schedule seminar for taxi and tricycle drivers, according to San Juan.
Annually, thousands of domestic and foreign tourists are coming to this city to grace the feast of Our Lady of the Pillar on October 12.
For this year's tri-festivity, over 300 balikbayans from Los Angeles, New York, and other parts of United States and Toronto, Canada are coming to this city, according to San Juan. (Pamela Jane Gamboa) _________________ Asia Expats Forum Expat Friends Dating
I'm not sure if that's something to see or to avoid. I will probably be there about that time unless I opt for the Hong Kong vacation. _________________
