I'm planning a trip top Japan next year, most likely for the fall of 2010.
I already have some places that I plan to visit, but I want to know from anyone here what sights in Japan would one recommend that I visit as a first time tourist? I plan to be in the country for at least two weeks, and mostly around the Kanto Plain area.
Thanks! _________________ "Experience is Everything"

kanto plains area?
where is that??
Here's some info...
"The Kantō Plain region is the most extensive lowland in Japan, located in central Honshu, facing the Pacific Ocean. Its 6,244 square miles (16,172 square km) contain the capital city, Tokyo, and constitute the most productive and populous area of the country. The plain is located to the east of the Japanese mountain arc, where it bends from a north-south trend to an east-west direction, and is walled by mountains (north and west) and hills (south). The geologic structure of the youngest rock formations accords with this surface expression, and the plain is often referred to as the Kantō structural basin."
"The Kanto is Japan's largest plain and very densely populated. The large cities of Tokyo and Yokohama are located in the Kanto Region. The Chichibu-Tama National Park offers opportunities for hiking and enjoying nature. There is a long-standing rivalry between the Kansai region and it's main city of Osaka and Tokyo. Kansai residents consider Tokyo people stuck-up and shallow, while in Tokyo, Kansai people are thought of as too direct and obnoxious."

I really enjoyed kyoto and a liitle beach town just a quick train ride from tokyo
Yeah, Kyoto is a nice place to go , I hear. Yeah, I'd like to check out not only the Kanto region , but also the Kansai region as well, if I have the time..
I wanna go to Kyoto Osaka, Nara, Himeji, etc. but I most likely will not have a few days, not months to check things out, so I'd like to know from people that have been there, what the Must - Get- To sights that I should visit in that region of Japan.
Most of my friends in Japan live in this Kansai area, so I'm planning to see if I can learn the Kansai dialect of Japanese ( Kansai - ben ).
( Kansai - ben is "sort of" to Japanese what the Issan Dialect is to Thai.. Sorta.... ) _________________ "Experience is Everything"
