There are many, many expats who live in other places.
Cebu has a large expat crowd, as does Batangas.
Some are in Baguio, some in Angeles.
Many are in rural areas, some where their wives families live.
With around 1 million or so expats, they can be found in most places. _________________ The Middle Eastern states aren't nations; they're quarrels with borders.- P. J. O'Rourke
There are numerous bikini bars where expats can be found in Cebu City. My favourites are Lonestar, Viking, Temptation and Silver Dollar. For more info on these and others, you can check here:

Some popular expat hangouts in Cebu City for non adult entertainment are:
Badgers - which is styled on an English Pub and has billiard tables, dart boards, the sports of the day showing on large screen tv's and an upstairs restaurant.
http://www.badgerspub.net
Sandtrap - which has tennis courts, swimming pool, open air restaurant and clubhouse with billiard table and dartboard.
http://www.sandtrap.biz
Drifters in Gaisano Country Mall - not so popular since Badgers opened nearby
Ratsky's in Ayala Mall - This place has a special everyday from 2pm to 6pm. All the draught beer you can drink and all the Pizza you can eat for P150 (about usd $3). There is an expat get together at Ratsky's on the last Sunday of each month and the first Sunday orf each month.
There are plenty of things to keep expats in Cebu entertained.
Enjoy

G'day Jim,
Good post. Are most ex-pats in the Philippines there for the Bikini Bars??
Not to put too fine a point on it, but that's what a lot of people think. Perceptions are hard to change.
Is the Swagwan Hotel still kicking in Manila? I quite liked that place.

Hewer, Jim is often "seen" on the Living in Cebu forum, and from comments there and on other message boards, the majority of ex-pats are married to Filipinas, or working there.
Some do go there just for the nightlife, but the main place for that is Angeles City, just as Pattaya attracts those who want that lifestyle to Thailand.
There are over 100,000 Brits living in the Philippines, with corresponding numbers of other nationalities. There is probably a similar number visit each year, for various reasons.
Yes, the Swaggy is still there, but I gather isnt as good as it used to be and is reckoned to be poor value. But, it was probably at its best in pre-Lim days, when all Ermita was far more,....errum, "interesting" than it is now. _________________ The Middle Eastern states aren't nations; they're quarrels with borders.- P. Are you an Aussie too?
I heard of the swagman before my first trip to the Philippines in 1994 but have never yet set foot inside one. There are several now. You can read more about them here:
http://www.swaggy.com
You don't have to go to the bikini bars for the obvious purposes, the 4 bars I mentioned are convenient places to have a drink and play pool. When I go to a bikini bar, I am more often then not with a group that consists of girlfriends and wives.

Yes there are many sex tourists in the Philippines. They annoy me no end. Their only experinece is in tourist areas where the girls are on offer and when they are away from the bars, they think the rest of the population is the same as the girls in the bars.
There was one turd last year who sought assistance from a business I was associated with to hire an assistant. He decided that our office secretary was what he wanted (a girl whose family home is also the local church) so he told her he would pay more than us but wanted her to strip first and prove she was a virgin. He is lucky I was not in the office at the time.
In my opinion, there are many tourists in the Philippines who are soley there to spend time in the bikini bars. They seem to mostly hang out in Angeles City. But, there are many more, temporary or permanently living in the Philippines who are not in the Philippines because of bikini bars. There are a huge number of expats living their ordinary lives who never go near a bikini bar.
Just my two centavos worth!

Big numbers. Quite a few Japanese too, and plenty of hard luck stories. I read that the Japanese government repatriates about 30 homeless Japanese men every week. They go there chasing women (or a woman), blow all their dough and end up destitute.

Yeah, someone gave me the rundown on Lim when I was last in the Philippines. Not very popular (at least with the regulars at the Swagman )

I liked the Swagman originally for the live AFL and Rugby League. Papua New Guinean channels and strange commentary sometimes, but still good. This was before Asia Pacific came out, so I'm guessing it's not such a rare thing anymore to find it.

D*ckheads. Saw more of this two months ago in Phuket. Some stupid GIs think that all Thai women are pros. One moron asked the waitress at a pizza restaurant for an oil massage. He was very polite about it, just bloody stupid. I think she understood him but pretended not to. Painful scene. _________________ Wer tanzen will, muss die Musik bezahlen
A few other hangout places in Manila worth mentioning are Handle Bar and Heckle & Jeckle, both in Polaris St in Makati. The Matrix, nearby in Burgos St is also popular.
On the other side of town, Juris Cafe in MH del Pilar in Ermita has several regulars who gather to chat at the bar, mainly Dutch, but anyone seems welcome. My personal favourite hangout is Amazonia Bar, also in MH del Pilar. They have several pool tables, great staff, a live band some nights, and a number of "friendly" girls who drop by.

Hi Chris and welcome. Amazonia sounds good. Friendly girls eh? I guess the name gives it away _________________ Wer tanzen will, muss die Musik bezahlen

The LA Cafe & Amazonia Bar were highly recommended
when I was in Ermita early 2005. (Click image below)
The LA Cafe seemed bigger and had more customers.
However when I entered the Amazonia, I noticed that
the girls had legs like tree trunks probably due to the
excessive consumption of fast food such as McDonalds _________________ EXPAT IN CHINA

Well, gotta give them (the estabilishment) credit for being honest and upfront when they named the place ... _________________ Dongguan Expat - Your online Community!
