Mike, not sure what your doing - drunkenbear was me, don't ban the IP .. otherwise, I won't be able to post ... _________________ Dongguan Expat - Your online Community!
your ip is showing as coming from beijing--strange
(220.112.199.231)--is what i get for you--and that is not banned
i deleted the bear thing
maybe the 58 address i was seeing is that marco clown still trying to get on??
The bots may be just displaying random permutations of IP's ...
As I said, not sure, but it's certainly interesting from an academic point of view ... I've never spammed, so don't have much knowledge of it (though I was heavily bashed in the SGExpat forum by most members - excepting a few - for "trolling" (one or two posts intended to irritate those who flamed me without repercussions)) ...
Such is life for someone trying to chill out online.

no no i don't ban your ip
trying to understand how all this works.
and I dont think this is a bot--its a person sitting there.
i get bot registrations everyday-and i delete them
-they dont post--
they cant post--what they do is put their links in their profile which they hopeis picked up and indexed by google _________________ Asia Expats Forum Expat Friends Dating

If it's a person, they can just use a proxy server to hide their real IP from this forum ... that may very well be the case. _________________ Dongguan Expat - Your online Community!

that is entirely possible but trhe fact remains they stopped as soon as i banned the ip
what is different between a phone line and any other connection to ISP??
BTW this morn woke to find all my 3500 records of expatwebdirectory.com gone
2nd time this has happened
have to restore--I dont know how this happens
What I meant was people using phone lines are assigned DIFFERENT IP's every time they log on to the internet, unlike cable connections, or (to a certain extent) ADSL connections ...
Dang, not sure how all contents got erased from your site - hope your taking proper precautions?? making sure the permissions and all that are ok?? No-one else got the password to Cpanel? _________________ Dongguan Expat - Your online Community!
the missing records I dont understand and no i did not take the precautions so i have to pay the host 150$ to restore
so now i will back up every week
as far as permissions goes-- i followed all instructions etc. and thought that everything was ok.
I am wondering if this is not something the host does "by accident" to gain extra revenue
my adsl connection changes my ip every few hours. i doubt that guy was using a normal phone line as he was posting faster than i could delete _________________ Asia Expats Forum Expat Friends Dating

Back up EVERY DAY if possible. I doubt the host does this to increase revenue though Mike ... I seriously doubt it (unless you got a real ANUS for a host).
ADSL changes your IP a bit ... but the last two parts of the IP probably stay intact ...
